District 2 Congresswoman Just Doing Her Job

“Woe unto them that call evil good, And good evil; That change darkness into light, And light into darkness; That change bitter into sweet, And sweet into bitter!”

    Isaiah 5:20

While Isaiah asks the question about the person calling evil good and good evil, the more interesting question is what about the people who support said person?

Every newspaper in Congressional District 2, and many outside the District, for a week have been publishing letters to the editor, opinion pieces and editorials crucifying Yvette Herrell, that District’s newly elected representative. The kerfuffle is about her vote last week on the House of Representatives floor to essentially not accept the results of several states’ election results. She believes President Donald Trump won the election and that it was “stolen” from him.

Interestingly, she also believes her election was bona fide and correct.

Letter writers and editors want her to resign or worse.

Fortunately for us in the north, we have Theresa Leger Fernandez, instead of a woman unacquainted with facts, void of reason and common sense and who apparently can’t think for herself.

    But does Herrell need to?

We elect representatives and senators at the state and federal level to represent us. Herrell won her District 2 seat 142,283 votes to Xochitl Torres Small’s 122,546. That’s a 54 to 46 percent victory. Some would say that’s as clear as some of the victories Joe Biden won against our president, who maintains he in fact won, not Biden.

Herrell could easily argue she is representing a majority of her district, doing their bidding, voting the way they want her to, regardless of whether that vote is evil, labeled good.

So these people calling for Herrell’s head must ask themselves, “What about those 142,283 people (a solid majority)?” If you want Herrell burned at the stake, shall we line up her supporters too?

The same can be said for the many U.S. legislators that continue to support Trump, agree the election was stolen and that certified state results are simply wrong. Those legislators are representing a majority of the population in their states.

If U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, did not support Trump he would not get re-elected because the huge majority of Kentuckians who just sent him back to the senate in November believe Trump got robbed.

Until, we the people, as the old document states, become familiar with facts, educate ourselves to the truth and honestly weigh a person’s character, we will continue to send the Herrells and Trumps of the world back to office. In which case we deserve what we get. And District 2 voters have gotten exactly what they wanted and voted for.
