Dulce Stabbing Case to be Delayed Again Because Victim Dies

Published:

A Dulce man accused of stabbing another man with a knife will have his case delayed again after the man he repeatedly stabbed recently died, although preliminary, the man’s death appears to be unrelated to the stabbing.

Alex Julian, 28, of Dulce, has been held without bail since he was arrested on Nov. 6, 2023, for the stabbing that happened over a year prior to his indictment and arrest, on Oct. 25, 2022.

A federal grand jury indicted him on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon: a knife and assault resulting in serious bodily injury, on Nov. 1, 2023.

None of the details of the case, including the extent of the alleged victim’s injuries, are in the federal court file.

His case was delayed a fourth time after his attorney, federal public defender Angelica Hall, filed a fourth unopposed motion on Sept. 9 to extend deadlines and trial date in the case.

Hall wrote that on Aug. 29, everyone learned that the alleged victim in the case died.

“The cause of death is believed to be unrelated to this case; however, the parties need additional time to investigating (sic) the circumstances of the alleged victim’s death and the impacts, if any, on the criminal proceedings in this case,” Hall wrote.

Both sides have also been discussing the possibility of a plea deal, she wrote.

According to minutes from a Sept. 18 status hearing in federal court in Albuquerque that lasted for four minutes, federal prosecutor Timothy Trembley said the “investigation is ongoing” into the alleged victim’s death.
