The Pojoaque Elkettes volleyball team finished third at the Piedra Vista Invitational Sept. 12 in Farmington.
The Elkettes suffered their first loss of the season Sept. 12 to Monument Valley, Ariz., 25-19, 25-15, 25-13 in the tournament semifinals.
“They had a 6-foot- 2-inch girl who could hit over the top of our block,” Pojoaque coach Brian Ainsworth said. “They were a very, very good team.”

Pojoaque, which beat Capital 3-1 in the quarterfinals, played Shiprock in the third-place game. The Elkettes defeated the Chieftains in a tough five-game match 19-25, 25-13, 22-25, 25-15, 15-13 to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Pojoaque’s Miquela Lovato, Kira Trujillo and Dionna Montoya were named to the all-tournament team.
The Elkettes face local rival Española Valley Tuesday in their first home game of the season. The Elkettes snapped a seven-year losing streak to the Sundevils last season with a 3-1 win in Española.
