Eugene “Gene” Rendon,
74, of Fairview passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 30, 2009 after a lengthy illness with cancer.
He was born in Dixon, NM on September 30, 1934. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren. He retired from The New Mexico State Highway Department in 1983. He was a member of Santa Cruz de la Canada Catholic Church where he served as an usher and Eucharistic minister for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Sophia Rendon, his sisters Anita Archuleta and Louise Vigil.
He is survived by his wife Evila of 49 years, his daughters and sons: Edwina Roybal of Fairview, husband Chris; Norma Valdez of Espanola, husband Alvin; Carlene Naranjo of Fairview, husband Donald; Eloise Garduno of Santa Fe, husband Leonard; Geno Rendon of Albuquerque, wife Melissa; Eric Rendon of Espanola, wife Laura; Debbie Marquez of Albuquerque, husband Jude. Sisters and brothers: Clara Martinez of Santa Fe; Frances Jefferson of Tucson, Arizona; Peter Rendon and wife Juanita of Leadville, CO.; Tony Rendon and wife Laura of Dixon, NM. 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. A rosary was recited on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. also at Holy Cross Catholic Church, burial followed at 1:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Chris Roybal, Alvin Valdez, Donald Naranjo, Leonard Garduño, Jude Marquez, and Derrick Valdez. Honorary pallbearers are all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to the Santa Fe Cancer Center.
