Filomena M. Romero “Mena”,

age 87, a life long resident of La Puebla, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2009, following a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Filadelfio M. Romero; son, Harold Romero Sr.; parents, Procopio and Teresita Montoya; 1 brother, Guillermo “Willie” Montoya; father and mother-in-law, Severiano and Margarita Romero. “Mena” was an active member of Santa Cruz de la Cañada, Las Carmelitas, Holy Family Society and Womens Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus. She worked for the Española Public School District for 17 years. “Mena” was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She is survived by her children, Candie Castañeda and husband Paul, Phil Romero and wife Lila, Isaac Romero, Theresa Martinez and husband Richard all of Española, Marvin Romero and wife Noreen of La Puebla; daughter-in-law, Ymelda Romero of Velarde; 4 brothers, Jose M. Montoya of San Pedro, Epifanio Montoya and wife Margaret of Pueblo, CO., Samuel Montoya and wife Josie of Santa Fe, John P. Montoya and wife Helen of La Puebla; sister-in-law, Carmelita Romero of Cordova; 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren; care-givers, Wanda Blea, Eunice Espinoza, Almarosa Suarez, Darlene Lujan, and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation was Monday, June 15, 2009 at 4:00p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a Wake following at 7:00p.m. A Rosary was Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 7:30p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 1:00p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada with burial following at the La Puebla Catholic Cemetery. Assisting the family as pallbearers were Harold Romero Jr., Paul F. Castañeda, Marvin Romero Jr., Isaac Carlos Romero, Elmer Sanchez Jr. and Richard C. Martinez. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, Patricia, Orlando, Germaine, Harold Jr., Melissa, Paul F., Michelle, Yvette, Kimberly, Camille, Renee, Erika-Lee, Natalie, Shanda, Isaac Carlos, Maria Elena, Marvin Jr. and Danielle.
