Highway 84 was closed Tuesday night at the intersection with Highway 17 in Chama because of a structure fire at Kathy’s Thrift Shop, according Chama Fire Chief Felix Gallegos.
The Chama fire department responded at 9:46 p.m. Tuesday and found the building fully engulfed in flames, Giegos said. No adjacent buildings were damaged, Gallegos said.
“We did save the building,” Gallegos said. “There’s a lot of smoke and heat damage inside. We had a lot of help, It took a half hour or so to knock the fire down; 18 volunteer firefighters responded.”
State Fire Marshal Investigator Joe Chavez was headed to Chama Tuesday morning to investigate.
