Fishing Report for the Week of Jan. 22

ABIQUIU LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.

CHAMA RIVER: The water flows Monday morning below El Vado and Abiquiú dams were 91 cubic feet per second and 208 cubic feet per second, respectively. Trout fishing was slow-to-fair using salmon eggs.

EAGLE NEST LAKE: The lake was opened to ice fishing January 16 with restrictions. The area open to ice fishing is between the boat ramps and out to the orange flags. No snowmobiles or ATVs (All-Terrain Vehicles) are permitted on the ice. Fishing was slow but there were a few trout and perch taken by anglers using ice jigs, salmon eggs, wax worms and roe sacs.

HERON LAKE: The fishing from the bank near La Laja boat ramp was fair-to-good using power bait and salmon eggs for rainbow trout up to 14 inches.

JEMEZ WATERS: The water flow on the Jemez River near Jemez Springs Monday morning was 25 cubic feet per second. Trout fishing on the lower Jemez was fair using salmon eggs, power bait and copper john bars.

NAVAJO LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.

PECOS RIVER: Trout fishing was slow but there were a few fish taken on salmon eggs.

RIO GRANDE: The water flow Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 458 cubic feet per second. Fishing was slow for all species but there were a few northern pike caught by anglers using large flies.

SAN JUAN: The water flow below Navajo Lake Monday morning was 499 cubic feet per second. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was good for some but slow for others. The best baits were leeches, egg patterns, San Juan worms, streamers and small jigs. The fishing through the bait waters was fair using salmon eggs, streamers, spinners and copper john bars.
