Fishing Report for the Week of July 16

CATCHES OF THE WEEK

Abiquiú Lake: Levi Tenbrink, of Albuquerque, caught an 11.5-pound walleye July 5 using a spinner/night crawler rig. Hank Kuhn, of Rio Rancho, caught a 3.75-pound smallmouth bass July 11 on a worm.

Heron Lake: Anthony Martinez, of Ojo Caliente, caught an 18.25-inch kokanee July 11 trolling a double whammy tipped with corn.

FISHING NOTES

ABIQUIÚ LAKE: The fishing for smallmouth bass was good using Pop Rs, Ricos, senkos, worms, sweet beavers, grubs and crank baits. The fishing for walleye was fair using jerk baits, minnows, worms, spinner/night crawler combos, grubs, tubes and crank baits. The fishing for catfish was fair using cut bait, liver, worms, tubes and night crawlers.

CANJILON LAKES: The trout fishing was fair to good using worms, salmon eggs and spinners.

CHAMA RIVER: The trout fishing was fair to good using grasshoppers, wooly buggers, night crawlers, spinners, power bait and salmon eggs.

EAGLE NEST LAKE: The bank fishing picked up as anglers caught perch and good-size rainbow trout using worms, power bait and spinners.

    The fishing from boats was slow to fair for trout and kokanee salmon using spinner/worm combos, spinner/corn combos. Pistol Petes, spoons, Platte River specials and power bait.

FENTON LAKE: The trout fishing was slow.

HERON LAKE: The fishing for kokanee salmon was very good trolling double whammies, wedding rings and Cripplures tipped with white corn at 20 to 30 feet. The bank fishing for a mixed bag of rainbow trout and kokanee was fair using power bait, salmon eggs and Kastmasters.

HOPEWELL LAKE: The trout fishing was fair using power bait, worms under a bobber, hoppers and spinners.

JEMEZ WATERS: The water flow on the Jemez River near Jemez Springs Monday morning was 14 cubic feet per second. The trout fishing on the Rio Las Vacas, Cebolla, Rio Guadalupe and East Fork of the Jemez was very good using hoppers, crickets, elk hair caddis, ants, worms, salmon eggs and spinners.

LAGUNA DEL CAMPO: The trout fishing was fair using Kastmasters, small Dardevles, Pistol Petes under a bubble, worms under a bobber and power bait.

RIO GRANDE: The water flow Monday morning at Taos Junction Bridge was 440 cubic feet per second. The trout fishing was fair to good using spinners, spoons, wooly buggers, San Juan worms, stimulators and night crawlers. The fishing for northern pike was slow to fair using bunny leeches and jerk baits. A few smallmouth bass were taken using wooly buggers, spinners and jerk baits.

RIO PUEBLO: The water flow near Peñasco Monday was 14 cubic feet per second. The trout fishing was good using copper john barrs, stimulators and worms.

SAN JUAN RIVER: The water flow below Navajo Lake Monday morning was 847 cubic feet per second. The trout fishing through the Quality Waters was good using dead chickens, red annelids, emergers, San Juan worm, bead head pheasant tail nymphs, small hair jigs and small streamers. The fishing through the bait waters was good using night crawlers, garlic cheese, wooly buggers, copper john barrs, and jerk baits.

SANTA CRUZ LAKE: The trout fishing was fair using power bait, salmon eggs, spoons and spinners.
