Fishing Report for the Week of March 12

ABIQUIÚ LAKE: The fishing was slow-to-fair using minnows, swim baits and jig/grub combinations for walleye and smallmouth bass. A few brown trout were caught by anglers using crank baits and minnows.

CHAMA RIVER: The water flows Monday morning below El Vado and Abiquiú dams were 193 cubic feet per second and 297 cubic feet per second, respectively. The fishing below Abiquiú was slow-to-fair using jerk baits and spinners for brown trout.

EAGLE NEST LAKE: The lake has opened to bank fishing and is accessible between the boat ramps and at the south end of the lake. The fishing was good over the weekend using power bait and salmon eggs for trout up to 20 inches.

FENTON LAKE: The northwest corner of the lake has opened to bank fishing The fishing was fair-to-good over the weekend using power bait and Pistol Petes for trout.

HERON LAKE: The bank fishing was fair-to-good in the Ridge Rock area and near the La Laja boat ramp using power bait and salmon eggs for rainbow trout and an occasional small lake trout.

JEMEZ WATERS: The water flow on the Jemez River Monday morning near Jemez Springs was 68 cubic feet per second. The trout fishing on the Rio Cebolla, the East Fork River and the lower Jemez River was fair using worms, salmon eggs and small bead head nymphs.

RIO GRANDE: The water flow Monday morning at Taos Junction Bridge was 784 cubic feet per second. The fishing on the upper Rio Grande was slow for all species.

SAN JUAN RIVER: The water flow below Navajo Lake Monday morning was 499 cubic feet per second. The trout fishing through the Quality Waters was fair using red annelids, wooly buggers, leeches, egg patterns, dead chickens and small hair jigs, The fishing through the bait waters was fair using night crawlers, salmon eggs, power bait, jigs and jerk baits.

CATCHES OF THE WEEK:

Andrew Orlicky used a gold Rapala husky jerk to catch a 24-inch brown trout March 7 at the Chama River below Abiquiú Lake.
