Fishing Report for the Week of May 10

ABIQUIÚ LAKE: The fishing for brown trout is fair with spinners and night crawlers. The fishing for smallmouth bass is fair with crank baits. A few walleye have been reported using jigs and worms.

CHAMA RIVER: The water flows Tuesday morning below El Vado and Abiquiú lakes were 961 cubic feet per second and 1,850 cubic feet per second, respectively. The fishing pressure below El Vado has been light with reports of a few brown trout caught on Pistol Petes and night crawlers.

EAGLE NEST LAKE: Shoreline fishing is good for trout with roe sacs and power bait. The fishing for perch is slow with worms.

EL VADO LAKE: The fishing for 20-to-23-inch rainbow and brown trout has been fair from the shore with waterdogs, worms and rainbow power bait.

FENTON LAKE: The fishing is good from shore using night crawler and light-colored power bait.

HERON LAKE: The trolling for lake trout has been difficult due to the wind. Some small lake trout have been taken offshore with jigging tubes at 30-to-40-feet. The bank fishing for rainbow trout is fair using power bait.

JEMEZ WATERS: The water flow on the Jemez River near Jemez Springs Tuesday morning was 285 cubic feet per second. The fishing conditions are good using bead head nymphs, San Juan worms, salmon eggs and worms.

NAMBÉ LAKE: The fishing was good to excellent for rainbow trout May 8 during a fishing derby. The winning trout weighed 2 pounds, 4 ounces and was caught on salmon peach power bait. Anglers reported losing several large fish in the 20-inch range using Pistol Petes, Z-Rays and assorted lures.

PECOS RIVER: The water flow at Pecos Tuesday morning was 443 cubic feet per second. The water is high, murky and wading is difficult. The fishing is slow.

RIO GRANDE: The water flow Tuesday morning at Taos Junction Bridge was 1,340 cubic feet per second. The water is high and murky. The fishing is slow for all species.

SAN JUAN RIVER: The water flow below Navajo Lake Tuesday morning was 447 cubic feet per second. The fishing is good for rainbow and brown trout using midge larva, midge emergers, flash back pheasant tail nymphs and chocolate RS-2s in the Quality Waters. The bait waters have been fair for stocker rainbows using gold spinners, worms and salmon eggs.
