Fishing Report for the Week of May 28

ABIQUIÚ LAKE: The fishing for walleye was very good using jigs tipped with grubs, minnows, night crawlers, Gulp bait, crank baits and spinner/night crawler combinations. Anglers reported catching several limits including some walleye that weighed over 5 pounds. The fishing for smallmouth bass was fair using jerk baits, tubes and crank baits. A few trout were taken by anglers using worms and crank baits.

CANJILON LAKES: The lakes were recently stocked with trout but there have been no reports from anglers.

CHAMA RIVER: The water flows below El Vado and Abiquiú dams Monday morning were 1,500 cubic feet per second and 1,800 cubic feet per second, respectively. The trout fishing below El Vado was fair using night crawlers, spinners and wooly buggers.

EAGLE NEST LAKE: The trout fishing was good using power bait, worms, spinners, Pistol Petes and salmon eggs. The fishing for perch was fair-to-good using worms.

EL VADO LAKE: The fishing for brown trout was fair-to-good using grasshoppers, spinners and worms.

FENTON LAKE: The trout fishing was good using power bait and artificial wax worms.

HERON LAKE: The fishing for kokanee salmon and rainbow trout was good trolling Panther Martins, double whammies and Rapalas. Kellen Tetreault caught three 17-inch rainbows using a Panther Martin. A few lake trout were caught by anglers using jigs and Flatfish. The fishing from the bank was fair using power bait, spinners and salmon eggs.

JEMEZ WATERS: The water flow on the Jemez River near Jemez Springs Monday morning was 126 cubic feet per second. The trout fishing on the Jemez, Guadalupe, Las Vacas, Cebolla, San Antonio and East Fork of the Jemez was fair to good using worms, stone fly nymphs, prince nymphs, parachute adams, salmon eggs and copper john barrs.

RIO GRANDE: The water flow at the Taos Junction Bridge Monday morning was 2,180 cubic feet per second. The fishing was slow for all species.

SAN JUAN RIVER: The water flow below Navajo Lake Monday morning was 525 cubic feet per second. The trout fishing through the Quality Waters was fair to good using parachute adams, hair jigs, little princesses, red annelids, San Juan worms and wooly buggers. The fishing through the bait waters was good using night crawlers, salmon eggs, wooly buggers and jerk baits. The flows were increased Tuesday to 5,000 cubic feet per second. They will remain there for one week, then will be lowered to 500 cubic feet per second by June 12.

SANTA CRUZ LAKE: The trout fishing was fair to good using power bait, salmon eggs, worms wooly buggers and spinners.
