Fishing Report: Week of Dec. 12

CHAMA RIVER: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiú dams were 246 cubic feet per second and 57 cubic feet per second, respectively. Fishing below El Vado was slow-to-fair using spinners and worms for brown trout. There were no reports from below Abiquiú.

EAGLE NEST LAKE: As of this past weekend there was some thin ice in low lying areas but still plenty of open water for bank fishing. Fishing for rainbow trout was fair using power bait, roe sacs and salmon eggs. Fishing for perch was slow.

EL VADO LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.

HERON LAKE: Bank fishing was very good using power bait, roe sacs, salmon eggs and salmon egg/corn combinations for rainbow trout and small lake trout. The best areas were near the dam and near the La Laja boat ramp.

JEMEZ WATERS: Water flow on the Jemez River as of Monday morning was 27 cubic feet per second near Jemez Springs. Trout fishing on the Jemez and East Fork was slow with just a few trout taken by anglers using egg patterns, salmon eggs and worms. Fishing on the Cebolla was slow.

NAVAJO LAKE: Fishing for trout was fair for anglers trolling jointed Rapalas on the main lake and up the Pine arm. A few trout were taken by anglers using roe sacs and power bait.

RIO GRANDE: The water flow Monday morning at Taos Junction Bridge was 317 cubic feet per second. Trout fishing was fair using streamers, spinners, jerk baits and night crawlers. Fishing was fair for northern pike in the Pilar area using large jerk baits, black and chartreuse spinner baits and jigs.

SAN JUAN RIVER: Water flow below Navajo Lake as of Monday morning was 504 cubic feet per second. Trout fishing through the quality waters was fair using zebra midges, streamers, wooly buggers and parachute adams. Fishing through the bait waters was fair using Kastmasters, night crawlers , salmon eggs, Panther Martins, jerk baits, streamers and copper john bars.

STORRIE LAKE: Fishing was fair-to-good using salmon eggs and power bait for trout.

CATCHES OF THE WEEK:

RIO GRANDE: Byron Bishop caught and released a 36-inch northern pike Nov. 29 using a nine-inch jerk bait.
