Free Flu Shots Available

    Free flu shots for military veterans are now available at the Veterans Affairs Community-Based Outreach Clinic in Española.

    Veterans may also receive flu shots in building 41 of the Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Albuquerque, located at 1501 San Pedro Drive SE.

    Shots are free for any veteran currently enrolled with the New Mexico VA healthcare system. Veterans not yet enrolled can still get a free flu shot if they bring identification and a copy of their discharge papers.

    The Rio Arriba County Health and Human Services Department is seeking donations for a baby shower to be held for its pregnant clients.

    The Department is in particular need of baby furniture such as cribs, bassinets and other baby items. It is also requesting any items that can be awarded as door prizes.

    Santa Clara Pueblo has been awarded a $50,000 planning grant to fund its community development master plan.

    The grant is part of a $5 million state initiative to fund tribal infrastructure and planning projects. Tribal communities will receive an additional $12.2 million from other state, federal and tribal governments.

    Rio Arriba County is collecting donated items on behalf of its sister city Valle de Allende, in Chihuahua, Mexico, which has suffered devastating floods.

    Ninety-eight families in Valle de Allende are without shelter.

    Items needed include: furniture, irons, ovens, refrigerators, heaters, kitchen utensils, towels, clothing (including underwear) and baby clothes, beds and strollers.
