Hearing on New Superintendent Scheduled for Jan. 14

    The Española School Board will hold its third and last community forum Jan. 14 to discuss the hiring of a new District superintendent to replace David Cockerham, whose contract expires June 30.

    The forum will be held at the Española middle school auditorium from 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

    The Board held two similar meetings Nov. 18 and Dec. 10, during which Board members fielded questions about the selection process and accepted suggestions on what qualifications should be required of job candidates.

    The Board is also accepting community input through a survey, which is available in hard copy at District central office and all District schools, and online at www.k12espanola.org,

    The federal Bureau of Land Management plans to conduct three prescribed burns in north central New Mexico during January.

    The burns will take place: west of Copper Hill by Chamisal; Arroyo de Plaza west of Espanola; and northwest of Wind

Mountain near Tres Piedras.              Weather permitting, burn operations could be held on any day between Tuesday and Jan. 31.

    A group that helped with President-elect Barack Obama’s campaign plans to hold a community celebration Jan. 20 for the inauguration.

    The event is planned for 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Northern New Mexico College’s cafeteria in Española.

    Music, food and a re-broadcast of the inauguration events will be featured at the free event.
