If You’re Going to Fight, Don’t Block the Dollar General Door

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Digging in the Trash

Dec. 11

6:49 a.m. A Champion Car wash caller said two people were loading pipes from the carwash into a small car and a basket.

7:57 a.m. A one-vehicle rollover was reported in a ditch in Medanales.

8:57 a.m. A Habitat for Humanity caller said their dumpster lid was stolen last night.

9:59 a.m. An inmate at the Rio Arriba County Detention Center wanted to file a report because two other inmates tried to stab him.

10:26 a.m. A La Joya Street caller reported her dump trailer was stolen.

10:48 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a person in front of Oliver’s General Store who was walking into traffic and appeared to be on drugs.

3:07 p.m. A report was taken at the Rio Arriba County Clerk’s Office for ID theft.

3:13 p.m. A woman wanted to file a report because her medication was stolen form her car at Food King.

3:25 p.m. A man’s death was reported on Calle Gallegos.

4:18 p.m. An Abiquiú Post Office caller said someone pushed her into her vehicle.

4:47 p.m. A caller reported an RTD bus driver swerved into her and ran her off the road near the Ohkay Casino.

6:04 p.m. A caller said her former boss is harassing her via text and said he’s coming for her.

10:14 p.m. A Chimayó caller reported seeing two people digging through the trash and carrying a bucket of stuff they dug out of the garbage.

11:06 p.m. A Domino’s Pizza caller said a man and woman were physically fighting behind Food King.

Alcohol and Meds Don’t Mix

Dec. 12

3:10 a.m. An Ohkay Casino caller reported a vehicle in the south parking lot from which a bad odor was emitting.

5:11 a.m. Two people were starting a fire behind McDonald’s.

8:56 a.m. A Little Warriors Daycare caller said an 8-month-old baby was gagging after swallowing a piece of plastic.

10:34 a.m. An Alcalde caller reported her drug addicted cousin keeps stealing from her property and harassing her son.

10:35 a.m. An Alcalde caller said the next-door neighbor threatened to shoot her.

10:44 a.m. A report was received that someone had a gun in Math Hall 502 at Española Valley High School.

12:33 p.m. A man went to EPD because he was concerned about injuries on his 1-year-old son and he wanted to file a report.

1:55 p.m. A man went to EPD to report his concealed carry card was stolen from the Santa Claran Casino on Oct. 31.

2:20 p.m. A Villa del Norte Apartments caller said her truck was broken into.

3:28 p.m. A caller reported a homeless woman on El Llano Road was carrying a machete.

4:14 p.m. A man and woman walked out of Goodwill with a basket of random things.

4:39 p.m. A North Riverside Drive caller said a customer’s vehicle was stolen.

4:44 p.m. Jicarilla requested mutual aid because a man mixed alcohol with his medication.

11:52 p.m. A traffic stop in Ohkay Owingeh turned into a pursuit.

Destroying the House

Dec. 13

9:03 a.m. An Ojo Sarco caller reported their tenants are destroying the house by breaking the floor and taking everything out.

9:47 a.m. A West Chamisa Street caller said her gate was left open last night and someone stole a license plate.

11:32 a.m. A Tierra Amarilla caller reported a man in a Jeep is shooting at something.

11:35 a.m. An overdose was reported at the bus shelter near Starbucks. Someone ran into the store asking for Narcan.

12:41 p.m. A Coyote Post Office caller said a 1-year-old was sitting down, watching a phone when they went unconscious and started turning purple. CPR was performed.

3:13 p.m. An Old Hospital Road caller found two backpacks filled with clothes and shoes and they don’t know to whom they belong.

4:32 p.m. An Apple Valley Apartments caller reported a schizophrenic woman is trying to force her mother into a car.

5:26 p.m. An Allsups caller said an elderly employee threatened to him them for no reason.

5:40 p.m. A death was reported on Sesame Street.

9:51 p.m. A caller said people were fighting on North Paseo de Oñate and Fairview Lane and someone was pushed out of a vehicle.

Drunk Stranger

Dec. 14

1 a.m. A Roadrunner Drive caller reported someone broke their window and their son went looking for that person.

1:30 a.m. A Brown Street caller said a drunk 19-year-old showed up at their house and they don’t know who he is.

6:52 a.m. A Hernandez caller reported her son is drunk and fighting with her husband.

7:26 a.m. A State Road 76 caller said her sister let people stay in the garage and they are using the smoker to stay warm. She’s afraid it’s going to start her father’s house on fire.

8:08 a.m. A Rodeway Inn caller reported his child’s mother stole his information and cash apped herself money.

8:33 a.m. A Medanales caller said her neighbor against whom she has a restraining order, is breaking into her house.

9:59 a.m. A Church of Christ caller reported vandalism on the windows.

1:39 p.m. A caller said men are possibly trying to break into the electric box near T-Mobile. An officer said the men are on their way “after an embarrassing moment spending quality time.”

5:51 p.m. A Hernandez caller went to check on her grandmother’s house and found it had been broken into.

9:47 p.m. A Truchas caller said her daughter took a rope to her neck and tried to strangle her.

Knocking Down Mailboxes

Dec. 15

6:14 a.m. A Hernandez caller reported the neighbor has been breaking into his house.

6:33 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman walking on the street who said her husband and children were trying to kill her.

6:48 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman who was sexually assaulted and last seen by the old La Cocina.

8:06 a.m. A Dixon caller said someone in Colorado is harassing him and he wants to file a report.

8:14 a.m. A Velarde caller reported his chainsaw was stolen.

11:50 a.m. A Hernandez caller said a man was trying to knock mailboxes down.

3:19 p.m. A Hernandez caller reported her partner’s aunt walked into their house and headbutted the partner, then walked out.

4:26 p.m. A Valdez Park caller said a man on a four-wheeler is destroying all the grass by doing donuts in the fields.

5:05 p.m. A Valdez Park caller was sitting at a picnic table when a woman approached her and said “let’s go, dad is waiting.” The caller thinks the woman was trying to traffic her.

5:37 p.m. A death was reported at Fish Pond Lane and Po Pay Avenue.

8:20 p.m. A caller said her son kicked her out of the vehicle by Apple Valley Kitchen after a verbal disagreement and she wants to speak with an officer in case he won’t let her back into the house.

8:58 p.m. A Lotaburger caller reported a woman was in the parking lot, trying to get into cars.

9:22 p.m. A Wendy’s caller said a man is inside the dumpster.

Stealing Firewood

Dec. 16

8:53 a.m. A Lotaburger caller found a woman in her vehicle.

9:02 a.m. A caller said a BIA officer was going to drop a woman off at the Sheriff’s Office because she wanted to speak with a deputy about something that happened at the Rio Arriba County Detention Center.

12:05 p.m. A woman broke a window on an SUV at the Park and Ride on Paseo de Oñate.

12:21 p.m. A San Jose Church caller reported family members vandalized her husband’s grave.

1:53 p.m. A Hernandez caller said her son is stealing her firewood.

3:07 p.m. A deputy investigated a case of battery at Speedway.

3:54 p.m. A man and woman were shooting up on Pacheco Lane and State Road 76.

4:09 p.m. A Camino del Sol caller said a man was yelling obscenities.

4:18 p.m. An El Rito caller reported a utility trailer was stolen last night when they weren’t home.

4:58 p.m. A Dollar General in Chama caller said two men were outside, fighting and blocking the entrance.

7:22 p.m. A Santa Claran Casino Hotel caller reported two people were using a controlled substance in the parking lot.

10:03 p.m. A Coyote caller said a woman broke his truck windows after they were arguing.

11:44 p.m. A Bow Hunters Lane caller reported a man was smashing vehicle windows with a bat.

Fight in the Alley

Dec. 17

8:19 a.m. A North Riverside Drive and Fairview Lane caller said there are two shovels at the intersection.

11:13 a.m. A caller reported a man is chasing her behind Domino’s Pizza.

11:47 a.m. A Calle Cielito Lindo caller said a man is in the middle of the street, dancing and waving his hands.

12:03 p.m. A driver was arrested after a traffic stop in Alcalde for possession of a controlled substance.

3:36 p.m. A caller said her ex has been sending threatening messages, saying he’s going to hurt her.

5:25 p.m. A man’s death was reported on Calle Juan Jose Vigil.

5:52 p.m. A caller said their mother texted them to say her house was broken into.

10:11 p.m. A Walmart caller wanted an employee to be arrested for stealing $350 worth of merchandise from the store.
