I am in awe of Pojoaque students Kristy Miera and Marisa Gutierrez, who have confronted their principal, Terry Burks, for demeaning the Black Lives Matter movement.
Burks stated in effect, if people don’t do anything wrong, they needn’t provoke police. This is not true, as these young women pointed out, with Blacks (and all people of color, really).
A glaring example is Elijah McClain, in Aurora, Colo., who in 2019 did nothing wrong, just walked down the street after buying iced tea. The police got suspicious and injected him with ketamine and put him in a police chokehold, all of which killed him.
On the other hand, James Holmes, a white man, killed 12 people and injured 70 in a blood bath in an Aurora theatre in 2012. He didn’t suffer a scratch when he was apprehended and was given due process.
Get the picture?
I hope we all look honestly at the hatred and racism that has always been a part of life in America. It has rampantly been coming out of the woodwork since 2016.
