JOSE ROBERT DURAN, 62, a resident of Velarde, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2009. Robert was preceded in death by his parents,

Cipriano Duran and Lucy Martinez; sister, Martha Duran; father and mother-in-law, Preciliano and Domitila Rendon; brothers-in-law, Emilio Rendon and Sam Trujillo and sister-in-law, Eloisa Roybal. He was a Vietnam Veteran from September 9, 1966 thru September 8, 1969 and served one year in Vietnam. He was a jack of all trades and talented in different fields. He was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed hunting and fishing; and was known as an exceptional cook and baker. He will be dearly missed. Mr. Duran is survived by his wife of 38 years, Frances Duran; daughter, Diolinda Roybal and husband Danny; sister, Clara Green; brothers Rudy Duran, Ernest Duran, David Duran and wife Porfie; sister-in-law, Alvinita Gasca and Mabel Rendon; 4 grandchildren and multiple God-children, nieces, nephews and friends. Public visitation was on Saturday, October 24, 2009 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, at which a rosary was recited. A second rosary was recited on Sunday, October 25, 2009 also in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde. Burial followed at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The following served as pallbearers, Clara Green, Rudy, Ernest, David and Cipriano Duran, David Varela, Pres and Mark Rendon.
