The big deal on the docket last week came Tuesday when the undefeated McCurdy volleyball team took on Sandia Prep, which was ranked fourth in Class 3A, while the Lady Bobcats checked in fifth in 2A.

Although little information is available about the match, the Lady Sundevils won 25-18, 26-24, 20-25, 25-16. That ended the Lady Bobcats’ season-opening, seven-game winning streak, which was the program’s best start in at least 20 years. Before the match, the Lady Bobcats had lost just three total sets on the season.

Volleyball

Sept. 15

Mesa Vista 3, Cimarron 1

The host Lady Trojans (3-2) rallied from a first set setback to win 17-25, 27-25, 25-17, 25-22.

Sept. 16

New Mexico School for the Deaf 3, Coronado 2

The host Lady Leopards (2-3) let a tight one slip away after winning the first two sets of the match, ultimately dropping a 22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 17-15 decision. Mia Gallegos had nine kills in the match and Chastelyn Jaramillo added five kills with five aces and seven digs. 

Santa Fe Indian School 3, Pojoaque Valley 0

The host Elkettes (1-8) lost a sixth consecutive match, dropping a straight-sets decision.

Cuba 3, Española Valley 1

The visiting Lady Sundevils (3-5) ran out of steam late in losing to the Lady Rams 25-17, 25-23, 14-25, 25-14.

Sept. 18

Cottonwood Classical 3, Española Valley 0

The visiting Lady Sundevils (3-6) found their offense stifled in losing 25-12, 25-14, 25-15 to the Lady Coyotes.

Jemez Valley 1

The visiting Lady Lobos (3-7) won for the second time in three matches.

Mesa Vista 3 Reserve 0

The host Lady Trojans (4-2) won a third consecutive match, beating the Lady Mountaineers 25-21, 25-17, 25-12.

Sept. 20

Raton 3, Mesa Vista 0

The Lady Trojans (4-3) gave up 34 kills and watched 12 service aces drop in while getting swept by the host Lady Tigers 25-13, 25-13, 25-14 in the opening round of the Raton tournament.

Dulce 3, Northwest 0

The Lady Hawks (5-5) swept the Lady Falcons 25-14, 25-15, 25-20 in the opening round of the Aztec tournament.

Aztec 3, Dulce 2

In a rousing, back-and-forth tournament championship match with the host Lady Tigers, the Lady Hawks came up just short, losing 25-14, 21-25, 25-15, 24-26, 15-8.

Questa 3, Mesa Vista 1

A late rally by the Lady Trojans (4-4) was not enough in losing to the Lady Wildcats 25-12, 25-16, 17-25, 25-19.

Sept. 20

McCurdy 3, Coronado 0

Mia Gallegos had four kills for the host Lady Leopards (2-4) and Chastelyn Jaramillo had four assists, while Ocean Morfin registered four blocks and Dynette Salazar had six assists in the 25-19, 25-23, 25-8 loss to the Lady Bobcats (8-1).

Sept. 15

Miyamura 10, Pojoaque Valley 0

The Elks’ Julian Caballero and Joshua Gomez each got off two shots, both getting one on frame and goalkeeper Raudel Rivera made 14 saves, but host Pojoaque (0-9) could not squeeze in a score against the Patriots.

Sept. 16

Santa Fe Prep 9, Pojoaque Valley 0

The visiting Elks (0-10) held the Blue Griffins to just one second-half goal, while Joshua Gomez and Samuel Mowry each put a shot on net in the road loss to the Blue Griffins.

Sept. 18

Cottonwood Classical 6, Pojoaque Valley 1

Samuel Mowry scored for the Elks (0-11) on the road in the first half, but the Coyotes had too much firepower in getting the win.

 

Girls soccer

Sept. 15

Miyamura 10, Pojoaque Valley 0

The host Elkettes (2-7), could not generate any offense in losing to the Lady Patriots.

Sept. 16

Santa Fe Prep 8, Pojoaque Valley 0

The host Elkettes (2-8) fought to the end against the Lady Blue Griffins.

Sept. 18

Cottonwood Classical 10, Pojoaque Valley 0

The Elkettes (2-9) could not withstand the relentless Lady Coyotes’ attack in the loss.

Sept. 20

Capital 2, 

Pojoaque Valley 0

A Mathea Bowie goal off a free kick helped the Elkettes (2-10) rally in the second half against the Lady Jaguars, but the comeback was not enough to overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit.

Girls

McCurdy

The Lady Bobcats finished sixth overall in the Rio Rancho Jamboree with 143 points, just three points out of a tie for fourth place. Marisol Serna led the way by finishing fifth in a time of 21 minutes, 44.8 seconds. Avery Knight was 13th for McCurdy in time of 22:51.5, followed by Isabella Archuleta in 40th in 21:51.4.

Dulce

Jayanna Patango came in 58th in the Jamboree, finishing with a time of 26:17.0

Mesa Vista

Magaly de la Cruz came in 82nd in the Jamboree in a time of 28:56.2, followed by Mirella De La Cruz in 90th in 30:08.3.

Boys

McCurdy

The Bobcats finished with 265 points, good enough for seventh place in the Jamboree. Aaron Martinez paced the effort, finishing 35th in 19:29.1, followed by Nicholas Martinez in 42nd in 20:03.3

Dulce

Led by Kash Prosper, who finished 26th in the Jamboree with a time of 19:29.1, the Hawks took 10th with 288 points. Ian Gomez ran a 20:34.9 for 54th.

Coronado

The Leopards’ Troy Valdez was 71st in the Jamboree with a time of 21:06.3 to help Coronado to finish 17th in the Jamboree.

Española Valley

Mylan Archuleta was 51st in a time of 20:50.1 in the Jamborees as the Sundevils finished 21st.
