We the good folk of Rio Arriba County find ourselves in yet another conundrum round of catch and release with two of our local public school districts: Española Public School District and Mesa Vista Consolidated School District. These two districts have a common denominator, which can be described as revolving superintendents, and it seems that the tenure for each current superintendent was only one school year. Pray tell, whatever can be the problem of these two school districts not being able to retain stable and solid leadership via a superintendent.

The NMAC TITLE 6.29.1.9.A.4-5 (aka the law) clearly states as such: “The duties and powers of the local school board … The local school board shall: delegate administrative and supervisory functions to local superintendent … REFRAIN from INVOLVEMENT in delegated administrative functions.”

Contemplate the above words for a minute or so, because I have a notion that you fine folk will develop your conclusions.

The local school boards of these two districts do not abide by the NMAC outlined above. The board members hire an individual and then begin to assert their control over the superintendent. When the superintendent rejects the strong arm of school board members; their job and reputation are jeopardized either by the fear of termination or the false branding of a sensational scandal in hopes of self termination.

The students of both school districts are set up for failure because of the politics driven by “il duce” Alex Naranjo and power hungry self serving ignorant school board members.
