Concerns over pallet homes
I am writing to clarify and reiterate concerns regarding the City Council meeting discussing the Social Services proposal for Pallet Homes in El Llano. The Social Services Director referred to the project as merely a “concept,” yet the documentation provided clearly labeled it as a proposal, complete with a budget and a partnering organization. This contradiction raises serious questions about adherence to the procurement code, which is designed to ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability in government contracting.
Numerous residents voiced their opposition to this project, yet the City of Espanola failed to hold Town Hall meetings or notify the affected community. Effective governance requires engaging residents on issues impacting their safety and property values, making it essential for the city to adopt a more inclusive approach.
During public comment, I want to clarify my earlier remarks about our elderly population. I apologize if my words were misconstrued; my intention was not to disrespect any individuals but rather to advocate for a balanced approach that includes prioritizing our youth, who represent the future of our community.
Lastly, I must address Mayor John Ramon’s unprofessional remarks towards me and my family during the meeting. Elected officials should engage respectfully with constituents, as public attacks can damage trust within the community. His actions raise ethical concerns by trying to publicly intimidate concerned constituents.
We deserve leadership that fosters constructive dialogue and focuses on collaborative solutions. I will continue to stand up for our community and advocate for what is right.
