Where’s the memorial?

We, the family and friends of Cypress Garcia, are again stupefied by the actions of Lotaburger regarding the murder of Cypress at their Española location.

It has been 18 months since this tragedy occurred and Cypress’ loved ones still grieve and demand justice for Cypress and his brother Cyress Garcia, who was also severely assaulted by alleged serial armed robber, Ricky Martinez.

Throughout these 18 months we have tried to find some sense of peace and normalcy in continuing to remember our hito, brother, tio, and friend, Cypress through music and in paying tribute to his memory at the place he is buried, and also at the place where he spent his last moments, the westside Lotaburger. Cypress had many special places that he enjoyed being, Lotaburger was one of them because he was able to work side by side with his little brother Cyress.

This past week we discovered that the objects we occasionally leave at the memorial plaque and bench in front of Lotaburger, the most recent one being yellow solar LED roses left for Valentine’s Day, were removed. A call was placed to Lotaburger with a requested response as to who removed these objects, and why? Also to let us know if we are no longer allowed to remember Cypress in this way on their premises. We are still waiting …

Sincerely perplexed,

Crystal Lopez

Support for Sam

Knowing Samuel LeDoux over the past decade, I have had the honor to watch him grow into the man he is today. I believe in that time frame; Samuel has accomplished a great amount, and it is only the beginning.

I believe that he will make a perfect fit for Espanola City Council District 4. Working in diverse communities across the country, Samuel has built up his civil service experience, to be prepared for his return home to the Valley. I have no doubts that Samuel not only possesses the knowledge and experience to reform his local community into a safer, stronger, and better place. But also possesses, the heart and will for his community to get the job done correctly.

Santa Fe

Candidates like Sam LeDoux are hard to come by in any area. Smaller towns especially are in need of his style of down to earth experienced leadership. I have known Sam for many years and have known him to be a dedicated professional with a servants heart.

Sam has the experience and the passion to lead but most importantly he has the integrity.

Sam has always expressed his love for his hometown and I have no doubt he will make an exceptional city councilman.

I urge you to vote for him and vote early.

Thomas Delaney

I’m writing today because I want to say I cannot be more proud of my grandson Sam LeDoux for stepping up to run for city council in Española. Sam has always been passionate about serving his community and has always fought for what he believed in.

He is continuing the tradition in our family of putting others above yourself, not only as a public servant but as an educator.

Sam has served in Government and politics since he graduated high school, being able to work several sessions in our state legislature, serve in two governors offices, work in two government agencies on both the state and federal levels, and has taught several college courses.

Grit is in my grandson’s nature, he will work night and day to get things done. He is also not afraid to say things like they are.

I hope the people of Española allow him to move our beautiful valley forward, he’s the candidate who truly has the future in mind.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and working with Sam LeDoux in state government when he lived out here during Graduate School.

Sam is one of the sharpest and most compassionate public servants I know.

During his time at the Governor’s Office, he always bent over backwards to get things done for constituents. Particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. I remember Sam being up for hours into the night doing his best to make sure that constituents and business owners all across our state had the information they needed as we faced this crisis.

I also know that Sam is a man of integrity not afraid to take on the powers that be even if it makes him unpopular.

The city of Española would be blessed to have someone like Sam LeDoux on City Council.

I’ve known Sam LeDoux his entire life and I can tell you that I would be honored to have him as a city councilor. Sam grew up here in Española and his passion for this city is deep and sincere.

He is dedicated and motivated to fight for change in this city and has the experience to get it done.

His background in policy and government work both locally and nationally gives him a unique perspective to tackle the challenges our city faces.

He is passionate about trying to solve the drug and crime issues that haunt our city and fight for a better future for our kids.

Sam understands the challenges our kids face, as an educator he sees their struggles and challenges.

He will take on the great task of making sure our city is safe, strong, and good enough to keep them here.

I urge my neighbors to please support Sam LeDoux for city council.
