MABEL VALDEZ,

85, a resident of Dixon, passed away on Friday October 16, 2009 following a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband; Nelson Valdez; parents, Felix and Julia Maes and brother, Robert Maes. Mabel was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an active member of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Dixon where she was a member of the choir. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her son, Roger Valdez and wife Yvonne; granddaughters, Jeanelle Romero and husband Eloy all of Dixon and Crystal Valdez of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Tyler and Alexis Romero all of Dixon; special niece, Anna Ruth Maes-Espinoza of Española and numerous other loving relatives and friends. Public visitation was Tuesday October 20, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel in DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday October 21, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Dixon. Burial followed at 11:30 a.m. the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Eloy, Dylan and Tyler Romero, Miguel Espinoza, David Zamora and Manuel Archuleta.
