Man Kicking Up Dirt Interrupts Mid-Day Reading

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

  

Don’t shoot Fido

May 15

5:45 a.m. A break-in was reported at Treasures of Enchantment Thrift Store. A man was seen on camera, taking stuff from the register.

9:11 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man who was lying on a Park and Ride bench and has been there all morning.

10:42 a.m. A car was abandoned on the side of the road in Hernandez for a month.

11:11 a.m. A caller said two children were running around in Alcalde unsupervised and didn’t have shoes or shirts on. The responding deputy said the children were with their mother and were playing in a pool outside.

11:31 a.m. A caller reported there’s a homeless camp and people are making a big mess behind the new Guadalupe Credit Union.

12:11 p.m. A woman called EPD to report someone is using her name and they are currently in jail.

1:43 p.m. An Alcalde caller said a worker saw someone break into a property.

2:05 p.m. A man and woman were panhandling at the Ohkay Travel Center.

2:37 p.m. A caller reported homeless people are staying in an abandoned trailer on Inspiration Drive.

2:53 p.m. A caller said a man was digging through the trash at Lotaburger and refusing to leave.

3:36 p.m. A man was running in and out of traffic near the Santa Cruz Country Store.

4:02 p.m. Two women were arguing on Cañada Court.

4:21 p.m. A drunk man was on the ground by Pizza 9 and was either run over or hit by a vehicle.

4:43 p.m. An overdose was reported at the Family Dollar in Chimayó.

4:51 p.m. A welfare check was conducted on a man who was sitting in his vehicle for two hours at the Ohkay Casino. The officer found an open container of alcohol, pill bottles and marijuana in plain view.

4:55 p.m. A caller reported his son is on drugs and he’s afraid because he’s threatening him.

5:26 p.m. A caller said her husband hit her, pulled her by the neck and threw her on the couch.

7:06 p.m. A Tierra Amarilla caller phoned 911 and said her brother is going to shoot the family dog.

7:10 p.m. A caller saw her stolen trailer at a home.

7:53 p.m. An overdose was reported in Hernandez. One dose of Narcan was administered.

10:08 p.m. An Alcalde caller said a bald man jumped his fence, walked onto his property, then jumped the fence again when confronted and ran off.

May 16

12:15 a.m. A New Mexico State Police officer stopped to check on a person lying on the road at Riley Road and Fairview Lane.

12:28 a.m. A North Prince Drive caller thought someone broke into his car because he locked it and left. When he returned, it was unlocked.

1:37 a.m. A caller requested courtesy rounds because a blocked number called and threated her. They said they were at Ranchitos Park and had guns.

6:27 a.m. A man was reportedly wearing a police vest and carrying a Walmart bag down Zuni Lane.

9:02 a.m. A Familia Dental caller said a man was trying to throw the trash and four people were sleeping behind the dumpster. They began yelling and throwing boxes at the trash truck.

9:37 a.m. A Velarde caller called animal control on his neighbors and was taking photos and video of their dogs in his yard. He exchanged words with the neighbors and said he feels threatened.

11:39 a.m. A Calle del Sol caller found a rock thrown through their her kitchen window.

12:06 p.m. An overdose was reported at the Park and Ride. A driver saw a man inhale a substance and blow it out before collapsing on the floor. Two doses of Narcan were administered.

12:22 p.m. A Hernandez caller said she was outside reading a book and can’t do that now because a man on a motorcycle or ATV is going back and forth, kicking up dirt and making noise.

2:09 p.m. A Stop and Eat caller reported two men are fighting in front of the Santa Clara dispatch building.

2:51 p.m. A Calle de Pajarito caller said the neighbor is shooting in the air.

3:36 p.m. An Española Middle School student was refusing to go home and asked to speak with a police officer.

4:50 p.m. A man was passed out at Dollar Tree. His face was purple and he was drunk and refused to leave.

9:45 p.m. An overdose was reported on Sandy Lane. One dose of Narcan was administered.

 

Pizza problems

May 17

12:04 a.m. A man was pulling a woman by the arm on North McCurdy Road and Fairview Lane.

1:10 a.m. A man broke the window on a home on Camino Rio Vista then ran toward the football field.

1:14 a.m. A caller said the neighbors are arguing and using a chainsaw.

3:40 a.m. A wooden fence was on fire in Ohkay Owingeh.

4:04 a.m. Two women and a man were arguing and being belligerent in the Ohkay Casino lobby.

6:59 a.m. A woman’s death was reported in Chimayó.

7:09 a.m. Solar lighting panels were stolen from the Española Christian Center.

8:20 a.m. A caller reported seeing the driver of a Jeep that New Mexico State Police were chasing. The driver was at the Santa Cruz Country Store, asking people for a ride.

9:22 a.m. A caller said people in a side-by-side are going up and down North Prince Drive, stopping vehicles and looking for someone. They had handguns and brandished them.

9:31 a.m. A Velarde caller found bullet holes all over her porch and house.

9:39 a.m. A Pet Sense caller said a homeless person is approaching customers and harassing them.

1:13 p.m. A caller wanted to speak with a deputy regarding a dispute over an order she placed at Mamacita’s Pizza in Medanales.

3:42 p.m. A caller said he was assaulted by a man in Dulce.

3:52 p.m. A man walked into the Santa Claran Casino with a handgun in his waistband.

4:08 p.m. Three men were walking around on North McCurdy Road and El Llano Road and going under the water drainage system.

4:30 p.m. An Eagle Drive caller said he asked a driver to move her vehicle because it was parked illegally and the woman said she would kick his ass.

4:32 p.m. A Chimayó caller reported someone was making noises near his house.

4:50 p.m. A Velarde caller wanted to speak with a deputy because the owners of some loose dogs are harassing him.

5:48 p.m. An overdose was reported outside of Burger King. Two doses or Narcan were administered.

6:11 p.m. A Vallecitos caller said the neighbor’s dog killed his chickens.

7:44 p.m. A caller reported being assaulted by her brother.

8:15 p.m. A man was beating up his girlfriend behind the Santa Cruz Country Store.

9:38 p.m. A fire was reported in El Rito.

10:02 p.m. An Indian Way caller said their brother is in the house, breaking windows and damaging the walls.

11:11 p.m. A Calle Bonita caller reported his friend is very drunk and taking the doors in the house apart.

 

Gun wielders

May 18

12:49 a.m. An overdose was reported at the Española Hospital. Narcan was administered.

9:45 a.m. A woman threatened staff when they tried to kick her out of the store.

2:02 p.m. A Velarde caller reported a man was knocking on her car window with a gun.

3:16 p.m. A caller said a man was beating on his grandma and the caller was hit on the head with his phone.

3:40 p.m. A caller reported five vehicles are parked on Camino Cielo Grande and El Llano Road and it appears the occupants are getting ready to fight each other because they are yelling, making gestures and walking toward each other.

3:52 p.m. An overdose was reported on Glenwood Avenue.

4:05 p.m. Two men were refusing to leave Lotaburger and threatened a woman, saying they’d kick her ass.

5:14 p.m. A Ziegler Street caller said a neighbor threatened her 14-year-old daughter.

8:16 p.m. A man said his ex is following him around town.

8:29 p.m. Adult Protective Services requested a welfare check on a 90-year-old man who’s wife said his son assaulted him.

8:44 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a her mother, who called and said she was in her car and afraid to go into her house because her husband was there.

9:46 p.m. A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller reported a man was walking around and had a gun in his waistband.

10:14 p.m. A Bonecutter Lane caller said teens were outside, playing loud music, yelling and fighting.

12:14 a.m. An Ohkay Owingeh police officer requested a deputy or State Police officer for a person who was pulled over and had probation violations. Also, an ambulance was requested for a very drunk 18-year-old man.

12:14 a.m. Someone reported homeless people on Po Pay Avenue and wanted them removed.

1:04 a.m. One person was arrested after a call for a domestic on Avenida Cañada.

7:10 a.m. A 61-year-old man at Española Pathways Shelter was complaining of burns.

7:23 a.m. A Velarde caller said her daughter won’t give her the keys so she can go to work.

8:31 a.m. A man with a handgun on his hip was walking toward O’Reilly’s.

9:03 a.m. A woman requested a welfare check on her husband at the BIA Offices in Ohkay Owingeh after he sent a text saying “call the SWAT team.” When they found the husband he said he was joking with her about their dogs damaging property while they were out of town over the weekend and she must have misunderstood the text.

9:21 a.m. A Hernandez caller reported the neighbor’s roof flew off their barn and damaged the caller’s property.

10:37 a.m. A Chamita caller wanted to speak with a deputy about a stolen gate.

11:13 a.m. A hysterical woman was throwing things at Walmart employees.

1:20 p.m. A Cordova caller said a man in a truck was trying to get his nephew to sign a petition yesterday and when he refused, he brandished a gun.

1:50 p.m. Narcan was administered to a man who was passed out in a vehicle near Wendy’s.

2:51 p.m. An overdose was reported on East Jiron Street.

3:05 p.m. A caller reported a possible “live wire” touching a fence at Española Valley High School.

4:40 p.m. A Starlighter Loop caller said they got home yesterday and noticed their son’s bicycle was missing. The neighbor said someone was riding it around the area.

5:15 p.m. A La Mesilla caller reported her mailbox and trash can were hit by a car and she wants to file a report.

5:43 p.m. A man went to the Apple Valley Kitchen, saying he ran away and was looking for food.

6:18 p.m. A man was refusing to leave the Avanyu Travel Center restroom.

6:49 p.m. An Alcalde caller said a homeless woman was in a freezer on their property and got aggressive when confronted.

7:21 p.m. Homeless people were setting up camp behind the Bubble Zone laundromat.

7:43 p.m. An El Guique caller said their son was riding a bike on the lower road when a man hit him with a metal pipe.

8:25 p.m. A Calle del Sol caller reported his grandma is “flipping out.”

9:08 p.m. A Willow Bird Road caller requested an ambulance for a man that was fighting with other drunk people.

11:25 p.m. An Española Fire Station caller said a man was knocking on the door and being aggressive and belligerent.

3:25 a.m. A person was messing with the alarm at Lowe’s Home Improvement.

5:32 a.m. A caller was driving by the San Pedro Shell Station and noticed the front door bashed in.

5:46 a.m. A man and woman under a tarp at the Española Pathways Shelter refused to leave.

7:45 a.m. A Calle Flores caller said they had an issue with homeless people camping on his property at night.

11:16 a.m. A Pacheco Lane caller reported someone in an SUV was harassing workers doing a demolition job. The person was driving through the job site and getting in the way.

1:54 a.m. An Alcalde caller said a homeless woman keeps going to their house at night and banging on their door.

12:17 p.m. A Domino’s Pizza caller reported a man is running in and out of traffic and going in and threatening employees, saying he’s going to stab them or fight them.

2:14 p.m. A Romero’s Fruit Stand caller said an employee got into her dad’s truck and he started hitting her. A second caller reported a woman in a truck was bleeding.

2:23 p.m. A Lumberton caller reported her grandmother went manic and threw her cane at her.

2:41 p.m. A woman said her son’s AirPods were stolen from Española Middle School and he thinks he knows who took them.

3:47 p.m. A man on Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park Road was cussing and spitting and saying “he’s going to get you.”

4:15 p.m. Three women behind the barbershop on La Joya Street were smoking drugs.

4:15 p.m. A Pizza Hut employee wanted a man lying in the drive-thru to be removed.

4:32 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man who got off the bus and began walking toward Calle Salazar and South Paseo de Oñate. The man was banging his head on the door as he exited the bus.

6:10 p.m. A caller said a man and woman are walking toward Wendy’s with two bicycles and they were threatening to shoot Walmart security.

6:26 p.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller reported a man was driving recklessly and nearly hit the caller. He then put his gun on the dashboard to intimidate the caller.

6:31 p.m. A man’s death was reported in Hernandez.

7:40 p.m. A caller said they’re out-of-state, but their daughter went to check on a friend and found them dead.

8 p.m. A caller reported her daughter was harassed by three men at Valdez Park.

9:50 p.m. A man was harassing staff at the Dollar General in Hernandez and taking photos of them because they told him the store was closed and he refused to leave.

10:49 p.m. An overdose was reported in El Rito. The caller said she’s on medication and drank alcohol and doesn’t feel well.

May 21

8:06 a.m. A Las Vegas Street caller said a man in a truck keeps going to his house and looking through his windows with a flashlight.

10:06 a.m. A Goodwill caller reported their eBikes were stolen from Motel 6. They stopped at the thrift shop to see if they’re there.

10:32 a.m. A caller said they’re stuck on 31 Mile Road.

11:55 a.m. A caller reported a man was unconscious at the RTD bus stop. The bus driver administered two doses of Narcan.

2:13 p.m. A Walgreens caller said a car pulled up next to them at the Fairview and Riverside intersection and pointed a gun at them.

2:51 p.m. A Camino de las Animas caller reported an elderly man, two children and three dogs are in his front yard and the dogs are drinking his dog’s water and eating their food. They’re making a mess in his yard and refusing to leave. The elderly man was wearing traditional Native American clothing with “feathers and stuff.”

3:49 p.m. An Española city employee said a random person threatened her.

3:52 p.m. A woman at the health center wanted to file a report for a “misdiagnosis.”

4:05 p.m. An overdose was reported on Private Drive 1338. One dose of Narcan was administered.

7:11 p.m. A overdose was reported in Hernandez.

8:39 p.m. Several people were being belligerent with employees at the Ohkay Casino.

11:11 p.m. A fire alarm was activated at Española Valley High School.

11:40 p.m. Criminal damage was reported by the welding shop at EVHS.
