A City of Española employee has accused Mayor John Ramon Vigil of sexual assault, according to a recently released New Mexico State Police report.

The victim told police Vigil assaulted her on Oct. 4, 2024, while dining at Del Charro restaurant in Santa Fe, the report said. The victim said Vigil put his hand up the skirt of her dress, squeezed and rubbed her thigh and touched the outside of her vagina with two of his fingers.

She also provided details about other instances of sexual harassment, bullying and coercion from Vigil during her employment. She is still employed with the city. According to the report, she provided State Police with phone records, copies of text conversations and a detailed timeline of events leading up to, and after, the alleged assault, demonstrating Vigil’s aggressive and erratic behavior toward her.

“The experiences I have endured under Mayor Vigil’s administration have not only made my work environment unsafe and intolerable but have also caused me significant emotional and psychological distress,” the victim wrote in her statement to police.
