Mayor, Councilor Doers, Not Talkers

Published:

If you were looking for something to be grateful for last week and came up short, you can add Mayor Javier Sanchez and City Councilor Justin Salazar Torrez to your list. They spent the day before Thanksgiving manually collecting residential trash and hauling it to the Alcalde transfer station.

Rio Arriba politicians are mostly long on self back-patting, self-congratulating and bragging about spending money that was never theirs. They’re always short on action. These two are the antithesis. We’re all tired of politicians and administrators who congratulate themselves on voting for something or spending taxpayer money on something and then whine becasue they didn’t get credit. How many do you know who take action on an issue, without calling the newspaper asking for a picture or credit, and then execute on the idea? That’s a mighty short list.

Those of you who dislike the mayor for his right leaning tendencies or his Texas roots, should put him up against your favorite local democrat. Last Wednesday there would have been no comparison.

We need more doers and a lot fewer politicians who call voting and spending our money “good work.”
