I have known Moises Morales for almost 35 years. I knew him when he opposed power at a time when it was dangerous in Rio Arriba County to do so. Given that history I would have expected an accusation that he would be a tool for power would be supported by some examples of past conduct leading to that conclusion. But no such examples were present.
I agree Fred Vigil did a good job. But your effort to use Fred as an example of “independence” in contrast to your claims about Moises is also unsupported by example. When did the Commission try and force Fred to do something he opposed doing as Clerk? Your mention that he wasn’t afraid to call the State Police. What did that have to do with the Commission or the Manager? The editorial makes it seem like it did but did it?
What specific qualifications did Fred have for the job before he began working and learned?
Moises Morales was not a perfect county commissioner and he clearly made some mistakes, but he generally advanced the interests of the county residents. He has fought for the regular folks most of his adult life. The recent editorial was an attack on Moises, replete with negative inferences but not a single example to support the attack.
The SUN has generally served Rio Arriba County pretty well for a long time. I expected better from you.
