(SUNfoto by Kevin Bersett) Luz Maria Calderón Gomez gave birth to the first child of 2010 at Española Hospital. Luz Elena Zavala Calderón was born 11:15 a.m. New Year’s Day. At birth, she weighed 9 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20.5 inches tall. This was the second child for Calderón Gomez and Jose Zavala Salgado, of El Guache, in the last 11 months. Their older child is named Esmeralda Zavala Calderón. Only one birth was recorded at the hospital on the first of the year, according to Hospital staff.
