North Well-Represented on All-District Team

    The District 2AA champion Coronado Leopards placed three players on the All-District 2AA team. Senior point guard Pat Cordova, senior post Pedro Valdez and junior shooting guard Johnny Chavez led the 23-5 Leopards to their second straight district title and a victory over Questa in the opening round of the Class AA state tournament. The Leopards lost to Bosque School 65-49 in the state quarterfinals.

    Escalante placed four players on the all-district team. Seniors Justin Atencio, Jacob Flores and Matthew Trujilo, along with junior Eric Belser, led the Lobos to a runnerup finish in District 2AA and a 12-15 record. The Lobos lost 63-46 in the opening round of the Class AA state tournament to Mesa Vista.

    Dulce placed two players on the all-district team. Senior Jarrett Vigil and sophomore Dominick Panzy represented the Hawks, who finished 4-19 and fourth in District 2AA.

    Coronado coach Ezau Rios was named the District 2AA Coach of the Year.

    District 2AA runnerup  Dulce placed three players on the All-District 2AA girls tea. Senior Carmen Gomez, along with juniors Carmen DeDios and Kaitlyn Vigil, led the Lady Hawks to a 6-19 record. The Hawks upset Coronado 50-49 in the District 2AA tournament to advance to the championship game. The Hawks lost to Peñasco 64-58 in the opening round of the Class AA state tournament.

    Coronado placed three players on the all-district team, Seniors Angie Schmitz, Katherine Trujillo and Stephany Velasquez led the Lady Leopards to a 12-14 record.

    Escalante finished 10-13 on the season, Juniors Aneshia Avalos and Annah Martinez, along with senior Serenity Samora, were named to the all-district team.

    Coronado coach Eric Kajca shared District 2AA Coach-of-the-Year honors with Navajo Prep coach Rainy Crisp. Prep won the District 2AA championship.
