Both Escalante basketball teams took a strong start to district play on April 9 when hosting Mesa Vista.
The girls basketball team hosted a Lady Trojans team that doubled up McCurdy the night before. But they showed no issues as they look to stay on top of District 5-2A after a disappointing finish to last year’s season when they lost the district tournament and then in the first round of states.
Escalante raced out to a 14-1 lead, and kept that momentum the rest of the game. The Lady Trojans came within five in the second quarter, and a 17-1 run that went through the second half of the third quarter through the early fourth slammed the door shut.
The Lobos lost a non-district game to Pecos the next day, 62-47. They face Penasco on April 13, and continue district play hosting Mora April 15.
The Lady Trojans continued their season with a loss at Cuba April 10, 51-42. They face Penasco April 15.
