Police Blotter: A 4-Day Bender Might Render You Unconscious

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

 Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

  

Crooked Cousin

Jan. 8

5:27 a.m. A Villa del Norte Apartments caller said a group of people were hiding by the office.

6:48 a.m. A woman curled up in a blanket at Allsups was asked to leave but refused.

7:02 a.m. A semi truck with a trailer flipped in Lybrook and the trailer fell off.

8:18 a.m. A former employee walked out of a business with ice cream.

9:15 a.m. An Alcalde caller said an 11-year-old child with a backpack showed up at his house.

11:02 a.m. A Chamita caller said her husband is under the influence of something and is throwing things. She said he uses alcohol and cocaine.

11:42 a.m. An officer stopped a jaywalker near Cook’s Mobile Home Park.

2:04 p.m. A La Joya Street caller said she just got home and it appears that someone tried to break into her house because the window is damaged.

2:25 p.m. Los Alamos dispatch got a 911 call reporting a vehicle went off the road in Truchas.

3:24 p.m. An Income Support Division caller said her name is being used in another state to receive benefits.

4:23 p.m. A caller reported her nephew left her son at the Dollar General in Española but took his wallet. When the wallet was returned, it had $20 in it, when it originally had $380. She wanted to speak with an officer.

6:59 p.m. A caller said a truck ran into a pole in a parking lot at Santa Clara Peak Road and North Paseo de Oñate.

7:41 p.m. An Alcalde caller reported his grandmother took too many pills.

 

Get off the Bus

Jan. 9

1:37 a.m. A man’s death was reported on East Don Filigonio.

7:18 a.m. A Hernandez caller said his wife’s kids are yelling at him and he thinks they’re going to fight him. When asked for his name, he said “never mind I’ll deal with it myself” and hung up.

8:59 a.m. A Rio Chama Chevron caller requested a welfare check on a man who was passed out in a vehicle.

10:54 a.m. An RTD caller said a man is on her Chama bus and refusing to get off.

12:30 p.m. A man went to the Sheriff’s Office and reported that items were stolen from one of his properties, but he didn’t report it. Instead, he put it out to the community, asking people to contact him if they come across his items. Now someone is trying to extort him.

3 p.m. An Alcalde caller said her 11-year-old son is attacking her and pulling her hair after she tried to give him medication and he became upset.

4:40 p.m. A Calle Serrano caller reported her 13-year-old son has anger issues and he’s yelling at her. She wants to have him evaluated.

4:51 p.m. A Hernandez caller said a drunk man is at their house and is honking the horn and trying to break windows.

1:22 p.m. A caller reported a car is in the middle of the road on the Santa Clara Bridge with its flashers on.

 

Sweet Revenge

Jan. 10

2:38 a.m. A man with a rifle and dark clothing was walking around the Simmons Lane and North McCurdy Road area.

5:51 a.m. A Hernandez man said he was in pain from a gunshot wound he received yesterday; and he was kicked out of the hospital.

9:27 a.m. A La Mesilla caller reported three dogs were tied to a tree and there’s no shelter.

11:31 a.m. A Hernandez caller said a woman wants to treat him like sh*t, so he wants to report that she bought a gun for a convict and felon from Arizona.

12:49 p.m. A caller said her son is at her house and she doesn’t want him there because he harasses her. She’s tried to get a restraining order, but the judge keeps dismissing it.

5:42 p.m. An Allsups caller reported three Native Americans are gathered in front of the store and are refusing to leave.

5:49 p.m. A VA Clinic caller said a vehicle is parked near the dumpster and has been there several times today. It leaves and comes back and parks in the same spot. A responding officer engaged in a foot pursuit.

6:55 p.m. An Española Valley High School caller reported a coach from another team was slapped by a parent.

7:24 p.m. A Camino Cielo Grande caller said their mother’s house was broken into and four guns are missing.

8:14 p.m. A Pizza Parlor caller reported people in a vehicle ordered pizza, picked it up and then passed out in the vehicle.

10:03 p.m. A Calle Vigil caller said a man is threatening to kill them with a rifle.

10:59 p.m. A Santa Claran Casino Hotel caller reported an officer was doing a welfare check on someone in a vehicle and saw five pounds of a powdered substance and drug paraphernalia.

 

Drunk and Rude

Jan. 11

3:36 a.m. A Brown Street caller said their son is drunk, irate and wants to drive. The man was arrested.

11:07 a.m. A single-vehicle rollover was reported near the Abiquiú Fire Station.

11:27 a.m. A man’s death was reported in Velarde.

12:53 p.m. A Sacred Heart Church caller said she hit a vehicle and the person who’s vehicle she hit wants her to give them $150 so they can leave to Colorado before officers arrive.

2:02 p.m. A Food King caller requested a welfare check on a man who was falling all over. They were afraid he was going to fall into the road.

3:06 p.m. An Alcalde caller said a man is drunk and beating everyone up and being rude. When asked how many people were in the house, the caller said “me, myself and I.”

4:40 p.m. An Enchanted Mesa Mobile Home Park caller reported a man was shooting a gun at the end of the road.

6:49 p.m. A BOLO was issued for a man that was trying to break down a door at a house in Hernandez. He threatened family members and possibly was drunk and had a knife.

8:29 p.m. A Cañada Court caller said her granddaughter was armed with a knife and fighting with the caller’s daughter. She said the granddaughter was trying to steal from her.

9:15 p.m. A Private Drive 1341 caller reported the neighbor came over and said her husband is at her house, committing vandalism.

 

Walking Through the Forest

Jan. 12

9:32 a.m. A caller found two small girls walking in the middle of the road at Private Drive 1001A and County Road 40 and crying. They said they were cold and walked through the forest. An ambulance was called to check them out.

11:37 a.m. A Calle Vigil caller reported her vehicle was stolen after she left it warming up.

1:34 p.m. A La Cocina caller said a man in an SUV hit her vehicle and drove away.

2:50 p.m. A Walmart caller reported a woman was walking around the store concealing Mason jars and clothes.

2:55 p.m. A Kentucky Fried Chicken caller said a woman was digging a hole near the fence.

3:16 p.m. A Calle Armada caller reported his dog ran off and someone picked it up and posted it on Facebook. A man who allegedly had the dog refused to give it back.

3:20 p.m. A Hornets Lane caller said there is a fire mark on the side of his building and he wants to file a report.

3:54 p.m. A woman went to EPD and reported that over the summer, her child was beat at Valdez Park and the children are still harassing her children. She went to the middle school to disenroll her child and the same children followed her son and got in her face.

4:46 p.m. Two homeless men were walking around on La Joya Street and North Riverside Drive with a chainsaw.

11:29 p.m. A Calle Vigil caller said her brother has a plan to kill her. She said she and her brother has been drinking and her boyfriend does fentanyl. She called back and wanted to cancel her request for police.

 

4-Day Bender

Jan. 13

12:34 a.m. A Calle del Rancho caller reported her boyfriend’s child threw a rock and broke her window.

10:42 a.m. A Chama Elementary caller said she’s been working with a student who said they’ve been having suicidal ideations with a plan and means.

10:53 a.m. A caller reported her employer terminated her and accused her of stealing money from another employee. She wants to speak with an officer because she said she felt bad for the employee who got their money stolen, so she gave them money, but now she wants it back.

12:40 p.m. A woman was trying to get into a residence on North Riverside Drive.

2:21 p.m. A Calle del Rancho caller said a man and woman are driving around her property and threatening her.

5:10 p.m. A North Prince Drive caller reported hearing a gunshot come from the neighbor’s house.

7:27 p.m. A caller said a man was on a four-day bender and is unconscious.

8:09 p.m. A Calle Don Eduardo caller said someone pistol-whipped her, put a gun to her head and threatened to kill her.

 

Camping in the Ditch

Jan. 14

12:20 a.m. A Santo Niño Lane and State Road 76 caller reported a man appeared to be lighting a field on fire.

5:01 a.m. A Century Bank caller said a person is lighting fires in the walkway.

6:37 a.m. An Alcalde caller reported a woman is being disorderly and breaking things.

7:33 a.m. A Desert Vista Drive caller said her RV was taken in the middle of the night.

9:35 a.m. Two men were panhandling at Center Market.

10:31 a.m. A Hernandez caller reported his camping trailer was stolen this morning.

11:47 a.m. A Silkey Way caller said there are three tents in the drainage ditch and they want them removed.

1:27 p.m. A man went to the Sheriff’s Office to report that his house was broken into and money and his phone were taken.

2:23 p.m. A man wanted to file a report because someone plugged up all his drains and flooded his house.

2:51 p.m. A Hernandez caller found her father in his car and he had shallow breathing. Two doses of Narcan were administered and CPR was performed but the man died.

4:57 p.m. A Medanales caller said her sister’s ex is at the house and tried to break down the door to see his child.

5:16 p.m. A T-Mobile caller reported his ex keeps passing by and going to Starbucks.

6:50 p.m. A Dixon caller saw a woman crawling on the road and wanted to report it.

7:44 p.m. A Taos Lane caller said her family has been threatening her and she wants to talk to an officer.

10:08 p.m. A Middle San Pedro Road caller reported his garage was broken into.

11:45 p.m. A man said he was jumped at Zia Credit Union.
