Española Police officers, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies, State Police and Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police responded to the following calls:
Drunk on Porch
Monday, Nov. 17
• 9:15 a.m. — A Camino Miramontes caller said someone tried to take a tire from his wife’s vehicle. Police took a report for larceny.
• 10:07 a.m. — A caller at the Española Head Start said her son asked her three times for money. She told him to leave, and later when she went outside to get her purse from her car the window was broken. She said her son was on heroin. Police took a report for criminal damage to property.
• 11:32 a.m. — A caller said a man in a green Honda who was parked near Center Market was showing people an axe and screaming vulgarities. Police made contact with the suspect, who said he just got off work and came to get a pizza. No report was taken.
• 1:07 p.m. — A caller said a man was harassing her and her husband at Blake’s Lotaburger, and it was unknown whether he was concealing a weapon under his shirt. Police took a report for harassment.
• 7:55 p.m. — A La Joya Street caller said she didn’t want her drunk friend at her house. He was sitting on her porch chair when police arrived and was detoxed.
Wanted Gimp
Tuesday, Nov. 18
• 8:04 a.m. — A caller said the driver of a Chevy Silverado threw a lit cigarette into the street near Walgreens. Officers were advised.
• 1:21 p.m. — Dispatch issued an announcement for all officers to be on the lookout for a man who was on crutches and wearing a Cleveland jersey. He was wanted for forgery.
• 3:42 p.m. — A Navajo City Road Roadhouse caller said a Rio Arriba County Jail inmate, who was incarcerated for aggravated assault with bolt cutters, was sending threatening messages through her mother. The caller was advised to get a restraining order.
• 7:02 p.m. — A South McCurdy Road caller said she arrived home to find her car and her porch vandalized with spray paint. Police noted they handled the same incident a couple of days before.
Dazed Man
Wednesday, Nov. 19
• 8:49 a.m. — A caller said a suspicious person was loitering and looking in car windows in front of the Española Public Library. Police determined he was just waiting for the library to open.
• 9:53 a.m. — A Chimayó Trading Post caller said a psychiatric patient was off his medication and needed to be picked up for an evaluation. The caller said the man was a danger to himself and others and was known to have weapons. He was transported for evaluation.
• 1:35 p.m. — A Los Arcos Restaurant employee requested police remove a man who appeared to be under the influence of something and was standing at the door. A second caller said a man was lying on the sidewalk in front of Los Arcos. The man was given a ride to his west-side Española residence.
• 3:49 p.m. — A Lowe’s Home Improvement employee said the sister of a woman she had a restraining order against harassed her at work. The sister blocked her car in and told her to watch her back. An informational report was taken.
Bad Haircut

Thursday, Nov. 20
• 10:01 a.m. — An Española middle school employee said a female student lit a piece of paper on fire and put it on a teacher’s desk. She was released to her aunt.
• 12 p.m. — A caller said she received a pornographic picture on her cell phone. No report was wanted.
• 2:29 p.m. — A caller said the hairdresser at Smart Looks Salon in Wal-Mart did not cut her hair to her liking. She also said her young child knocked over a display and the manager started to harass her. She wanted to file a report on “disorderly conduct” against the manager. “The manager and reporting party had their exchange of words,” an officer noted in dispatch logs. “The manager did apologize all is well.”
Irate Panhandler
Friday, Nov. 21
• 5:33 p.m. — A caller said a heavyset man on State Road 76 was throwing rocks at passing cars. Police advised the rock-tosser to go home.
• 6:22 p.m. — A Walgreens employee said the manager stepped outside to ask a panhandler to leave, and the man got irate and attempted to hit the manager. The panhandler left, and the manager said he would call again if he returned.
• 7:14 p.m. — A North Prince Drive caller said a known drug user was at her son’s house looking for money. The drug user was gone when police arrived.
• 10:21 p.m. — A caller said a Northern New Mexico College student was texting her things about her child and threatening to kill her. The caller wouldn’t give any more information.
Unwelcome Drunk
Saturday, Nov. 22
• 1:31 a.m. — A caller said a car was following and throwing stuff at her car. Police questioned the suspect, who said the caller was harassing her. No report was taken.
• 10:04 a.m. — A caller said someone on State Road 74 was possibly stealing license plates. Police couldn’t locate anyone.
• 11:15 a.m. — A Calle Adelante caller said her stepson borrowed her car the previous night. She had several other problems with him and wanted to speak with an officer regarding the problems. Officers were advised.
• 11:41 a.m. — An Ohkay Travel employee said a drunk man was refusing to leave. He left before police arrived.
Violent Uncles
Sunday, Nov. 23
• 12:15 a.m. — A Las Lomas Apartments caller said there was a lot of loud banging on her walls, and she wanted an officer to tell them to stop. Police found a couple of people having some beers and advised them to keep quiet.
• 3:22 p.m. — A County Road 58 caller said her uncles were putting up a fence that they weren’t supposed to be putting up. She said they were getting violent and throwing a post. Everyone was sent on their way.
