Police Blotter: Cereal Hurled during Grocery Buying Spat

    Española Police, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police responded to the following calls:

Lurker Reported

Monday, Oct. 12

    • 3:04 a.m. — A caller said a person was lurking outside their residence. The call was transferred to State Police.

    • 10:06 p.m. —  A female caller said a man was sitting in a dangerous area of Santa Clara Bridge Road. She said he had been walking around the city for a few days. Police determined he was OK and sober.

    • 10:17 p.m. — A Third Street caller said two men were fighting over who would buy groceries. Police determined a man threw a bowl of cereal on the caller, and one person was arrested.

Hands Off My Veggies

Tuesday, Oct. 13

    • 2:28 p.m. — A caller said a man trying to conceal a large rock was walking around Cook’s Home Center and looked like he was going to break a window. He couldn’t be found.

    • 2:52 p.m. — A caller said some people were picking vegetables without permission. Police took a report.

Beer Bottle Trail

Wednesday, Oct. 14

    • 12:14 a.m. — A Rio Arriba County Road 93 caller said his ex-girlfriend broke his front windshield and took off in the direction of Family Dollar. He called again to say he thought she was passing in the area because he found a beer bottle. Police took a report.

    • 12:22 p.m. — A Days Inn manager said one of his employees quit, and her husband showed up afterward and tried to harass him.

    • 1:14 p.m. — An Española Municipal Court caller said she wanted a drunk man removed from the office. He was detoxed and held for probation officers.

    • 3:41 p.m. — A La Joya Street caller said he applied for services from an agency and left in the middle of the interview. Afterward someone from the agency left a vulgar message threatening him on his voicemail and called him demanding paperwork. The information was transferred to Española Police.

    • 6:11 p.m. — A Los Banos Drive caller said an irate customer who was “not mentally balanced” was refusing to leave the premises.

    • 8:39 p.m. — A State Road 74 caller said a green Honda flashed his lights at him, began swerving and threw a bottle out his window. When asked his name, the caller laughed and 911 dispatchers noticed his speech was slurred.

Thursday, Oct. 15

    • 12:23 a.m. — A Calle Rivera caller said his stepson was texting his daughter. Police determined the messages weren’t threatening.

    • 3:09 a.m. — A County Road 87 caller said his drunk nephew was causing a disturbance, cut a power line and was outside with a 12-pack of beer.

    • 10:51 a.m. — A caller said a man hit his car from behind and was chasing him. Police caught up with the suspect and turned him over to the Juvenile Probation Office.

    • 11:09 a.m. — A Private Drive 1425 caller said her son was at her ex-husband’s house trying to take a four-wheeler, and they were fighting.

    • 12:08 p.m. — A County Road 89A caller said someone tried to break into her neighbor’s house. Police spoke to the neighbor, who said they “did run into characters and ran them off.” Police couldn’t find anyone matching the suspects’ descriptions. 

    • 5:46 p.m. — A White Swan Road caller said her intoxicated mother was letting the air out of

the caller’s tires.

Husband Harboring Meds

Friday, Oct. 16

    • 1:14 a.m. — A North Prince Drive caller said his neighbor was accusing him of breaking into his house and threatening to retaliate by damaging the caller’s house.

    • 5:03 p.m. — A Domino’s Pizza caller said a female employee became upset because the manager fired her boyfriend. She quit and slammed the door on her way out, breaking the window pane. Police took a report.

    • 5:36 p.m. — A County Road 141 caller said some people were growing five or six 10-foot-tall marijuana plants.

    • 9:21 p.m. — A South Orchard Drive caller said she gave her husband permission to pick up her pain medication from Walgreens, and he was refusing to give it to her. She wanted to know if an officer could escort her husband to her house to return her medication. Police contacted the man, who said his wife might be overmedicated.

Saturday, Oct. 17

    • 1:55 a.m. — A caller said people were fighting in the middle of the road near Santa Cruz Catholic Church. Police found only an extremely drunk man “throwing up all over the place.”

    • 1:54 p.m. — A caller said his car was silly-stringed at Wal-Mart. Police planned to review the surveillance tapes to find out who did it.

    • 2:04 p.m. — A caller said three teenagers were throwing car parts in people’s yards.

    • 6:05 p.m. — A Private Drive 1721 caller said a drunk man came to his house and tried to take a tire off a truck.

    • 7:52 p.m. — A Highway 84 caller said she was slapped on the butt by a man who lives in Santa Fe. She said he was doing electrical work on her house when he committed the indiscretion.

Druggie Questions Wrong Culprit

Sunday, Oct. 18

    • 5:17 p.m. — A Checker Auto Parts employee said a man stole two battery chargers.

    • 6:16 p.m. — A Calle Don Filigonio caller said her neighbor, who appeared to be on drugs, was harassing her because he blamed her for eggings being committed in the area.
