Police Blotter: Feeling the Pain From Electronic Weaponry

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

 Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

  

Bouncing around

July 24

1:55 a.m. A caller reported a man in a vehicle in the Ohkay Casino parking lot has drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

4:53 a.m. A caller was slurring his words and not making sense. He asked for an ambulance but didn’t say what was wrong and iddn’t know his name.

7:15 a.m. A BOLO was issued for a truck stolen from Calle Chavez.

8:47 a.m. A Chama caller reported a woman went to their house and banged on the door. When the caller’s daughter answered, the woman started ot hit her.

9:20 a.m. A woman said another woman is violating a restraining order because she cannot post about her and her daughter on social media. However, th woman has been posting and accusing her of being a molester.

1:21 p.m. A Lio’s automotive caller reported a customer paid a $3,081 bill with a credit card, then disputed the charge and requested a refund.

3:15 p.m. An El Rito caller said he moved into his house three months ago and feels pain from the electronic weaponry coming from a nearby house. He doesn’t feel safe and wants it documented that he feels ill. He said there are illegal people going onto his property and he wants this documented in case he ends up dead.

3:32 p.m. A Mountain Center caller reported a client stole a folder with sensitive information on about 10 people.

3:51 p.m. A Dollar General caller said there’s a truck parked on the side of the building and the people in it are doing drugs.

4:28 p.m. A La Joya Street caller reported a homeless man was chasing another homeless man with a knife.

5:36 p.m. A McDonald’s caller said people in a vehicle next to them are doing drugs.

5:43 p.m. A South Coronado Avenue caller reported someone broke her vehicle’s window.

6:38 p.m. A Wendy’s caller said a man is hitting himself, bouncing around, throwing rocks and rolling on the ground.

7:36 p.m. A La Mesilla caller reported their dad is getting violent and was hit in the head.

8:31 p.m. A North Railroad Avenue caller said his ex and her family are harassing him and going to his house.

8:52 p.m. A Sena’s Radiator caller reported a man pulled up next to him and started cussing at him, then pulled out an assault rifle.

9:25 p.m. A Calle Don Pedro caller said his girlfriend is acting crazy and he wants her removed.

 

Sawed off door

July 25

12:30 a.m. A sports car and SUV were doing donuts by the Holy Cross Church.

1:21 a.m. A large brush fire was reported behind Ferrel Gas.

2:26 a.m. A Medanales caller said a man was threatening to burn down the house.

6:49 a.m. A Windstream employee got to work and found the door sawed off.

8:11 a.m. A Burger King employee was giving everyone “problems.”

10:22 a.m. A Metro PCS caller wanted to file a report on her employee for committing credit card fraud with a customer. She accepted cash, then used her credit card and canceled the purchases.

11:07 a.m. A Denny’s employee wanted to file a report because the copper was stolen from their power box.

2:59 p.m. A Mariscos la Playa caller wanted a “trashy” looking man removed from behind the building.

4:42 p.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller saw someone cutting copper.

6:25 p.m. A stolen vehicle was recoverd at Walmart.

6:35 p.m. A man and woman were physically fighting on Santiago Lane.

6:46 p.m. A Bode’s caller said someone was on his property and stealing from his garage.

7:31 p.m. A La Mesilla caller reported a woman is seeing people in the house who are not there and thinks someone is trying to get her.

11:23 p.m. A caller said her 13-year-old son wants to kill himself. She said they are sitting in a vehicle at their house.

 

‘Scary-looking’ Jeep

July 26

1:08 a.m. A North Riverside Drive caller reported her nephew is in the house, throwing things and yelling.

5:52 a.m. A man’s death was reported on Private Drive 1326.

6:54 a.m. A man was stuffing candy in his pocket at Allsups, then fled in a truck.

12:25 p.m. A home on Calle del Sol was broken into and a TV and speaker were taken.

12:55 p.m. A man’s death was reported on Roosevelt Street.

2:11 p.m. A Metro PCS caller said an employee used her card to pay for a customer’s services and when a refund was issued, it went to the employee’s card.

2:51 p.m. A caller reported a vehicle traveling from Santa Fe brake-checked them and followed them, then the male driver brandished a gun.

4:26 p.m. A caller reported a “scary-looking” Jeep is driving up and down East Roman Drive and North Railroad Avenue at a high rate of speed and keeps going to a house.

5:42 p.m. A Lumberton caller said the neighbor’s horses are running around the area and aren’t being fed.

6:49 p.m. An Ortega’s Jerky caller reported a woman tried to steal from the store and they have her locked inside.

7:42 p.m. A Calle de Pajarito caller said the neighbor is harassing her and being irate. She’s accusing the caller of running over her dog.

8:33 a.m. A Lumberton caller reported a baseball tournament is being played, but they don’t have permission to play at the field.

8:47 p.m. A caller said someone is stripping an abandoned mobile home for parts in Ohkay Owingeh.

9:19 p.m. A car was reported stolen on Valdez Drive. The caller didn’t want to speak with the police because she said she has a warrant.

10:37 p.m. A Corlett Road and Riverside Drive caller said a man was chasing her. The man was bleeding from his mouth and hand after they got into an argument that turned physical.

 

Screaming and yelling

July 27

10:33 a.m. A North Riverside Drive caller found a table saw and another saw in his front yard and thinks they were stolen.

10:04 a.m. Needles were picked up at Tortilla Flats and Po Pay Avenue.

10:39 a.m. An El Guique caller reported their tenant was bitten by a dog and they aren’t sure to whom the dog belongs.

12:26 p.m. A Chama caller said the FBI is coming after her for money laundering and her employer is using virtual devices to mointor her. She also said people are stabbing her with needles.

12:41 p.m. A Big 5 caller reported an ex-employee who was terminated is threatening employees and sending them messages saying they’re waiting for them at their homes.

3:12 p.m. A Bronx Road caller said his daughter is threatennig to kill him.

3:50 p.m. A woman was screaming and yelling at people walking by on North Railroad Avenue.

4:20 p.m. An Ohkay Casino security guard called to reported a man on a bicycle, behind the building might have a gun. The man actually had a crossbow and was banned from the casino.

4:26 p.m. A caller reported people have set up camp near the baseball fields at Valdez Park and they want them removed.

5:19 p.m. Children were shoplifting candy from Mike’s Mini Mart and when an adult was approached, they refused to pay for it and tried to fight an employee.

6:42 p.m. A truck was reported stolen from Chimayó.

7:36 p.m. A man jumped over a wall behind Walmart and told a caller that he was in danger.

8:13 p.m. A 12-year-old was taken to the hospital and said she was sexually assaulted by a 16-year-old boy.

8:16 p.m. A former employee went to Big 5 and refused to leave. The caller reported she’s been harassing current employees on social media.

8:17 p.m. A stolen vehicle was found near Hernandez Elementary.

9:06 p.m. A Cordoval caller said there’s a person outside with a gun and they are pointing it at their house and yelling for them to come out.

 

Breaking the acequia

July 28

7:11 a.m. A Velarde caller reported her daughter is throwing a tantrum. A deputy spoke with the girl who was upset about not being able to go out with friends.

9:26 a.m. A Medanales caller said his wife is being abusive, hitting him and throwing bottles of alcohol at him.

9:34 a.m. A Chama caller reported there’s a schizophrenic employee at work and they want a deputy to meet with the manager so they can fire her because they don’t know how she’ll react.

9:54 a.m. A group of homeless people were setting up an encampment behind the Food Depot on La Joya Street.

10:05 a.m. An Abiquiú caller said someone is breaking the acequia and he can’t get water for his crops and animals.

10:11 a.m. A St. Francis School in Lumberton caller reported a neighbor is harassing people on school property, going onto school grounds and photographing their employees.

11:37 a.m. A Walmart caller said a man drove by employees and was yelling obscenities. After getting into an argument with someone, the man ran a stop sign.

1:15 p.m. An officer stopped to talk to a man who was littering on Po Pay Avenue. He made the man pick up the trash.

2:23 p.m. A man was jumping on cars and arguing with himself at the Fairview Sonic.

3:14 p.m. Someone broke the glass doors at Speedway.

3:29 p.m. A caller wanted a man and woman dispersed from Calle Ramon Espinosa and North McCurdy Road because they were setting up a camp near the ditch.

5:20 p.m. A Hernandez caller heard about 15-20 gunshots.

5:32 p.m. A Hernandez caller said a person has been harassing her and now they are following her.

5:52 p.m. A caller reported a man in a van brandished a gun and hit it on his vehicle while there were stopped near Center Market.

6:11 p.m. A caller said Jemez Mountains Electric Cooperative elections were underway at Española Valley High School when some words were exchanged and an altercation almost occurred. They were told the Sheriff’s Office would do rounds but they didn’t show up.

6:12 p.m. A Starbucks caller reported a co-worker was lying down and someone handed him something and shot up drugs into his arm.

6:33 p.m. A caller thinks their phone fell off the top of their vehicle at Allsups and now the location of it is showing the Eco ATM at Walmart.

7 p.m. A person was setting up a fort between Calle Alamo and Chamisa Street.

9:41 p.m. A Corlett Road caller heard a loud noise and thinks it was a gunshot.

11:06 p.m. Juveniles were throwing items at Pet Sense.

11:13 p.m. Six or seven people were outside Center Market, smoking off foil and getting high. 

 

‘Buck naked’ neighbor

July 29

7:03 a.m. A man’s death was reported on Fairview Lane.

9:07 a.m. A report for fraud was taken at EPD.

9:11 a.m. A caller said his Ring camera captured a man stealing items from his Valley Drive neighborhood.

11:39 a.m. A Verizon caller reported his iPhone 16 Pro Max was taken from the counter.

12:19 p.m. Two people with shopping carts were setting up camp near Clyde’s RV.

1:38 p.m. Six homeless people behind the bushes next to Chili’s refused to leave.

1:47 p.m. A caller said a woman near T-Mobile tried to jump her after she tried to help her out yesterday.

2:35 p.m. A caller reported his sister called and said a man is in his Truchas home.

3:12 p.m. A Dollar Tree in Española caller reported a vehicle has been parked there for a couple hours and the driver is known to do drug transactions. He puts up the vehicle’s hood and pretends he’s having car trouble, while homeless people appraoch him and buy drugs.

3:33 p.m. A Fairview Sonic caller said a man is smoking something and walking around with knives in his hands. 

3:36 p.m. A caller reported a woman is walking near Harbor Freight, carrying a 6-foot-long box filled with light bulbs.

3:37 p.m. A State Police officer was out with a combative woman at CYFD.

3:39 p.m. A report was taken at EPD for stolen items.

4:18 p.m. A caller said her adult daughter got violent and assaulted her 13-year-old sister.

5:23 p.m. A Camino Santa Cruz caller reported a person went into their house because it was unlocked and went through a bunch of their drawers and then left on foot.

7:28 p.m. A Wendy’s caller said a man and woman are doing drugs near the handicapped parking spots.

7:27 p.m. A Hernandez caller reported the neighbor is always exposing himself when his wife is outside and today he took a photo of the man at his door, “buck naked.”

9:21 p.m. An East Jiron Street caller wanted a homeless person sidpersed because they were camping in the area near the caller’s house.

9:47 p.m. An East Roman Drive caller was screaming and sayig they can’t wake someone up and was asking for Narcan. An officer checked multiple addresses and couldn’t find the person.

9:57 p.m. A caller heard five or six shots in the McCurdy Circle area.

 

Can’t Drive 45

July 30

12:07 a.m. A Dixon caller reported his friend hit him, broke his window and took his phone.

12:36 a.m. An Allsups caller said a man is putting ice cream down his pants.

1:29 a.m. A person in Hernandez was bit in the face by a dog.

9:57 a.m. A woman went to EPD to file a report for fraud.

10:32 a.m. A man was chasing a woman near Jemez Mountains Electric Cooperative.

11:21 a.m. A caller said someone at Zia Credit Union refused to give her ID back. Employees there reviewed their surveillance and said they didn’t have her ID, but the caller insisted they did.

11:38 a.m. A Pet Sense caller reported a van is parked outside and people are distributing items to the homeless and blocking business access.

12:15 p.m. A caller said six people are hanging out by a tree on North Riverside Drive and exchanging items.

2:25 p.m. A caller reported a driver on Industrial Park Road was drinking a beer.

3:53 p.m. A caller said a Corvette near the Ohkay Express Mart was going 100 mph.

4:51 p.m. An overdose was reported at Walmart, near the garden center.

5:45 p.m. A man with a rifle was walking near Habitat for Humanity.

8:28 p.m. A man was yelling at Walgreens staff about the boxes behind the building.

8:55 p.m. A Valdez Park caller said their back window was shattered.

10:04 p.m. A Walmart calle reported a man is yelling at his father who’s on an electric scooter and they are physically fighting.
