Española Police, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police responded to the following calls:
Backpack Hurled
Monday, Aug. 17
• 8:22 a.m. — A caller said a woman threatened her at Española Elementary’s playground and threw a backpack at her. Police escorted the suspect off the property.
• 5:38 p.m. — A Wal-Mart employee said a woman was caught shoplifting and when they were removing the merchandise from her purse, they also found syringes.

Tuesday, Aug. 18
• 8:27 a.m. — An Una Ala Methadone Clinic caller said a man was being obnoxious. No report was taken.
• 8:06 p.m. — A Stop and Eat Drive-In employee said she asked a female co-worker to get an order for her, and the co-worker told her to get it herself and pushed her. The co-worker allegedly told the caller since she wasn’t 16 yet she “wouldn’t do her nothing,” but when she turned 18 she was going to get it. Police took a report for assault.

To Bipolar Man
Wednesday, Aug. 19
• 1:11 a.m. — A McDonald’s employee said while a man was paying at the drive-thru window, he grabbed $7 in change from the cash register. Police took a report for robbery.
• 1:29 a.m. — A Garcia Tires employee said a car was backed up near the store entrance and a man jumped over the wall, walked in the roadway and crouched behind the road barriers. Officers were advised to be on the lookout.
• 9:54 a.m. — A Hernandez caller said her husband had been harassing her and her family for weeks, and she wanted an officer to chase him out of the house. She said he wasn’t drunk but pulled a knife on her bipolar grandson. Police couldn’t find him, as he left on a tractor in an unknown direction.
• 11:16 a.m. — An El Rey Liquor store employee requested several people in front of the store be dispersed. Police found only a man with his son riding a pony.
• 3:11 p.m. — An Upper San Pedro Road caller said someone stole her barbecue grill.
• 5:31 p.m. — A Calle Vigil caller said her nephew tried to break into her house.
Burglar Blames AWOL Soldier
Thursday, Aug. 20
• 10:04 a.m. — An Española Public Library employee said a man came in and started pulling all the cords out of the computers and was pushing another man around. Police determined the man disconnected one computer but didn’t cause any damage.
• 10:16 a.m. — A Canada Court caller said a woman at her door was harassing her.
• 12:04 p.m. — A County Road 57 caller said a man wearing camouflage and driving a Chrysler tried to break into a neighbor’s house. When the caller confronted the man, he said he was looking for someone who was AWOL from the military and seemed very nervous. Police were advised to be on the lookout.
• 9:11 p.m. — A caller said an apparently intoxicated man was riding a bicycle near Northern New Mexico College. Police determined he wasn’t drunk, but had recently had a knee replacement and was having trouble riding.
Bathroom Ruse
Friday, Aug. 21
• 10 a.m. — A Cook’s Trailer Court caller said he was at work in Los Alamos and his nephew, who was at his house, said a woman came to the door asking to use the bathroom and then stole items from the caller’s room. Police took a report.
• 10:59 a.m.. — A McDonald’s customer said she paid with a $20 bill at the drive-thru window and the staff wouldn’t give her all of her change. After staff counted the register and police reviewed the surveillance tape, they determined the woman paid with a $10 bill.
• 2:22 p.m. — A Highway 84/285 caller said a man was trying to sell art work to her and was refusing to leave her porch. He left before police arrived.
• 7:40 p.m. — An officer stopped to check on a man lying on State Road 17 near mile marker 161. The officer advised the man to gather his belongings because that wasn’t a good place to sleep.
Shoplifter Unhinged
Saturday, Aug. 22
• 12:59 a.m. — A Club Tropicana caller said a customer in a hat battered another customer. Police took a report for simple battery.
• 9:50 a.m. — A caller said a man on County Road 94A was refusing to give her back her boat. Police determined her paperwork only proved she helped finance the boat, not that she owned it.
• 4:27 p.m. — A Wal-Mart employee reported a woman for shoplifting hinges.
Return Cherry Picker
Sunday, Aug. 23
• 12:33 a.m. — A woman made a walk-in report at the Española Police station that her ex-boyfriend was throwing things at her car.
• 4:47 p.m. — A Paseo de Oñate caller said her brother-in-law was trying to steal some tools. She said he also took her cherry picker, and she advised him to bring it back. No report was wanted.
• 6:25 p.m. — A West Granada Street caller said some people were inside a house that is for sale. Police found a man and woman who said another man dropped them off, telling them it was OK for them to be there. The woman said she had amnesia and multiple personalities that can change at any time. Police took a report for suspicious activity.
