Police Blotter: Marijuana Not the Source of Anxiety

    Española Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police and State Police responded to the following calls.

Drunk Jerky

Salesmen

Monday, Jan. 11

    • 12:23 p.m. — A Valley Suprette employee said she saw two extremely intoxicated men in the parking lot selling jerky.

    • 12:33 p.m. — A woman was found passed out drunk in a gold Dodge sedan at the San Pedro Shell station. Her car was towed, and she was taken to detox.

    • 2:24 p.m.  — An Española man said a man who had been drinking tried to assault him and punched his girlfriend.

    • 3:26 p.m. — Two men were drinking next to the Walgreens dumpster and harassing people as they passed by, a caller reported.

    • 4:04 p.m. — Four middle-school-aged girls were fighting each other in front of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a caller reported.

    • 10:42 p.m. — An Española man was found lying in the middle of Sandy Lane. The man was breathing but did not want to get up off the road. Police transported him to Española hospital.

Shooting Range

Tuesday, Jan. 12

    •1:11 p.m. — A Shoe Dept. employee said a man wearing black pants and a black jersey stole a pair of white shoes and fled on foot.

    • 4:51 p.m. — An intoxicated man was throwing up blood behind a cemetery in El Rito, a caller reported. The man would not allow responding emergency personnel to approach him but accepted help from three local residents who walked him to the ambulance.

    • 5:57 p.m. — An Española man was hit by a car while walking in front of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a caller reported. The vehicle drove off. The man was extremely intoxicated when responding paramedics found him.

    • 9:04 p.m. — A La Mesilla resident reported that drivers of a white Cutlass and a silver flatbed Dodge truck were firing shots at one another near the Black Mesa Golf Course.

Wednesday, Jan. 13

    • 1:13 a.m. — An Española woman called to report that a mobile home on Middle San Pedro road was fully engulfed in flames. Several explosions were heard coming from inside the residence. Firefighters put out the fire by 1:47 a.m.

    • 5:16 a.m. — Two residents returned to their home on Rio Arriba County Road 129 and found their car on fire. They believe someone may have started it.

    • 7:14 a.m. — A County Road 39 resident reported that a pack of dogs attacked and killed a goat. She is concerned about children who wait for a school bus nearby.     

    • 8:47 a.m. — An Española woman said she saw smoke coming from a house on Shadowood Lane. Responding officers discovered the smoke was coming from a wood stove.

    • 11:46 a.m. — A Canjilon man reported that his TV was stolen and thinks it was taken by his neighbor’s son.     

    • 11:47 a.m. — A horse broke some tempered glass on an owner’s neighbor’s property on Corona Drive. Responding police reported it as accidental damage.

    • 6:05 p.m. — A Shoe Dept. employee said a woman stole a pair of Nike shoes. She believes the suspect could be found eating at Taco Bell.

Thursday, Jan. 14

    • 1:38 a.m. — Police arrested the driver of a Chevrolet in the parking lot of Long John Silver’s after the vehicle was seen swerving into oncoming traffic on Riverside Drive.

    • 9:23 a.m. — A man in Wal-Mart was caught shoplifting two small toys valued at $10.72, a caller reported.

    • 10:02 a.m. —  A blue Chevy Cavalier with a for sale sign in the windshield was observed travelling at high speeds and swerving between lanes on State Road 68.

    • 1:39 p.m. — Emergency personnel responded to a man on the ground waving for help from the intersection in front of the Dreamcatcher Cinema.

    • 1:51 p.m. — A man on County Road 93 called 911 to report a breaking and entering at his residence. A flashlight and some eggs were reportedly missing from his home.

    • 6:21 p.m. — A mother on County Road 102 called 911 to report that her son got something in his arm, was mumbling and seizing up. The son was freaking out that it may be heroin. Paramedics and State Police arrived on the scene.

Rude Dog

Friday, Jan. 15

    • 9:42 a.m. — A Hernandez woman reported that a dog always goes to her father’s mobile home in Española on McCurdy Road and defecates all over his yard.

    • 2:33 p.m. — An Española Valley High School official called to report the theft of one laptop and one projector, valued at $3,271 dollars. 

    • 3:59 p.m. —  An Española man called police to inform them of a loud party taking place on Ash Loop. Police did not observe anyone partying.

    • 4:09 p.m.  — An Española woman called 911 to report that her heart was racing, her legs were becoming numb and she was suffering from an anxiety attack. She told the 911 dispatcher she had been smoking marijuana but thought it might have been something else.

    • 6:28 p.m.   — A woman on County Road 49 called police and said she had been run over by her aunt in the front yard. The woman was bleeding from her hand and in physical pain throughout her whole body. Responding officers found the woman and her aunt still arguing in the yard.

Saturday, Jan. 16

    • 12:53 a.m.  — A Medanales woman said she was hit by two men in her house, who then drove off in a Grand Am.

    • 8:52 a.m. — On State Road 580, a woman reported her neighbor owned 13 border collies, five of which were loose and chasing her down the road. She advised dispatchers the white and brown collies were more vicious.

    • 12:52 p.m. — Police responded to a call at the Santa Clara Apartments that a woman and an elderly man were in a car, possibly soliciting prostitution. Police spoke to the couple and advised them, “They better not try to do that.”

    • 3:23 p.m. — Two males left the Ohkay Casino without paying for their meals, a caller reported. After police arrived, the men got someone else to pay the $16 they owed.

Knocked Senseless

Sunday, Jan. 17

    • 12:47 a.m. — An Española woman called 911 and was concerned about blood pouring out of her nose. She had experienced a severe headache all day.

    • 1:59 a.m. — A gray horse was seen wandering around North Railroad Avenue near Northern New Mexico College.

    • 3:35 p.m. — A man was observed roughing up his son in the parking lot of Big Rock Casino. The son got away and ran back into the bowling alley to hide from his father. When interviewed by police, the man said his foster son was upset because he didn’t want to go home. 

    • 11:28 p.m. — A Santa Cruz man said his roommate threatened him and broke his glasses. He was concerned because he has very bad eyesight and poor hearing.
