Police Blotter: Parent Enjoys Happy Hour in High School Parking Lot

    Española Police, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police responded to the following calls:

One Beer Stolen

Monday, Dec. 7

    • 7:40 a.m. — Center Market employees said they thought a Volkswagen Jetta with expired license plates that had been sitting in the parking lot for two months might be stolen. Police said the car wasn’t stolen, and the store needed to hire a wrecker if it wanted the vehicle towed. 

    • 8:54 a.m. – A Chamita woman said someone may be in her neighbor’s house because the neighbor doesn’t live there and she saw the curtains move.

    • 10:27 a.m. — A Big Rock Chevron employee said a male customer, who paid for gas and returned asking for change, started yelling and cussing at her when she told him she was out of change. 

    • 10;42 a.m. — A caller said he went to Zia Credit Union to cash a check for a friend and was told the check was stolen. Police took a report.

    • 1:31 p.m.  — A San Pedro Shell gas station clerk reported someone was outside wearing a pink jacket and selling stolen jeans.

    • 1:59 p.m. — Española Hospital staff said a patient was trying to leave and asked police to bring in family members. The patient was detoxed. 

    • 3:21 p.m. — A parent was sitting in the Española Valley High School staff parking lot drinking liquor, school staff reported.

    • 5:03 p.m. — A woman said she arrived home to find her bedroom door kicked down but hardly anything missing. She told police all her videos were in a trash can and only a beer from the refrigerator was gone.

Teen Flees Dish Duty

Tuesday, Dec. 8

    • 10 a.m. — A male caller said he hit a black dog off Riverside Drive and saw it crawl under a trailer. He assured police someone had offered to let the dog’s owner know about what happened.

    • 3:51 p.m. — A San Pedro teenager ran away from home because she didn’t want to wash the dishes, her parents said. The teen took off on foot with a small cat.

    • 9:28 p.m. — An intoxicated Chimayó man, wearing pajama pants with devils on them and a brown jacket, walked outside his house, put an 8-inch bucknife to his throat and threatened to kill himself, his wife told police. The man had apparently dropped the knife while trying to climb into the crawl space between his roof and ceiling by the time police arrived.

Wednesday, Dec. 9

    • 2:28 a.m. — A man walking near Holy Cross Catholic Church was assaulted by three intoxicated males, the victim reported.

    • 8:06 a.m. — Española Valley High School staff asked animal control to confiscate a black kitten. A student had found the stray kitten and had brought it into a classroom.

    • 8:45 a.m. — A cow near Los Luceros was reportedly charging at passing vehicles.

    • 4:07 p.m. — A man found walking along Riverside Drive in Ranchitos told police he had gotten into a scuffle a little while back.

    • 4:21 p.m. — Louie’s Chain Saw Shop employees said a man and woman took a chain saw and ran off. Police arrested two suspects.

    • 7:00 p.m. — Two men were reported outside the San Pedro Shell gas station trying to sell a big screen television.

    • 9:07 p.m. — Fairview Sonic carhops said a woman in a black truck ordered some food an hour ago, then fell asleep. Police noticed the woman appeared to be asleep but was actually caught up playing games on her cell phone while she waited for her order.

Talking Not a Crime

Thursday, Dec. 10

    • 10:23 a.m. — A man walking down Riverside Drive told police a woman in a silver car had tried to run him over. Deputies gave him a ride to meet his mother who was at Blake’s Lotaburger.

    • 11:40 a.m. — A man, who was dissatisfied with the work a body shop did on his Subaru sedan, wanted police to tell him what his legal rights were in that situation. Police said his problem sounded like a civil dispute.

    • 6:38 p.m.  — Rigorberto’s Mexican restaurant staff reported two people standing out back wearing hoodies, who made staff nervous because they’ve heard of break-ins in the area. The pair  told police they were just talking.

    • 9:58 p.m. — A Chevron Quick Stop patron reported that another customer stole his wallet. Police asked employees for a picture of the suspect from surveillance cameras.

‘I’ll Take Them All’

Friday, Dec. 11

    • 12:19 a.m. — An Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo woman said her two sons were fighting and bleeding. She declined an ambulance and became irate and vulgar when asked for more information. The woman was gone and the two men were drunk when police arrived.

    • 3:12 p.m. — A man was trying to open a cologne case with a knife at Wal-Mart, a caller reported. Police declined to arrest him for shoplifting but removed him from the store.

    • 6:00 p.m. — A Tesuque Drive caller said three teens were trying to pick a neighbor’s lock.

    • 8:46 p.m. — A Petaca man told 911 dispatchers he had just hit his girlfriend. Dispatchers spoke to a female at the house, who said she was OK. The man said he would be waiting outside his house for police to come get him, then was overheard mumbling, “If they come, I’ll take them all.”

Man Avenges Alpaca

Saturday, Dec. 12

    • 11:02 a.m. — A Canjilon woman said her neighbors were shooting guns and spooking her horses. Police spoke to the men, who said they were busy slaughtering animals.

     • 12:46 p.m. — An alpaca was killed by two dogs in Chimayó, according to the owner of the alpaca. He said he did not recognize the dogs or know who owns the dogs. The alpaca’s owner had shot the dogs by the time animal control arrived.

    • 9:01 p.m. — A McCurdy Road caller said his neighbor dropped logs on his driveway, blocked his driveway and came back half an hour later smelling like alcohol.

    • 9:30 p.m. — Four men ran out of the Walgreens, each with a bottle of tequila.

Walking While Intoxicated

Sunday, Dec. 13

    • 4:14 p.m. — Three men wearing ski caps and gloves were reportedly driving up and down driveways in Chamita in a white Cavalier.

    • 4:36 p.m. — A man was reportedly smoking methamphetamine behind Wells Fargo.

    • 7:59 p.m. — Ohkay Owingeh Casino security said an intoxicated woman stumbled into a ditch while walking home.

    • 8:10 p.m. — A woman calling from Allsup’s convenience store said another woman, who assaulted her at Red’s Tavern last year, had just threatened her and then walked out with a 32-ounce fountain drink.

    • 8:50 p.m. — An Ohkay Casino customer said she was being held hostage. The woman said the casino’s computers were down and bartenders were making customers wait to pay their tab. Police could not find the customer.
