Police Blotter: Uninvited Sweepers Demand Payment

    Española Police officers, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police and State Police responded to the following calls:

Needles at KFC

Monday, Jan. 5

    • 3:56 p.m. — An Ash Loop caller said she arrived home to find her house trashed. She said $200 that had been hidden under a dresser was gone. Police took a report.

    • 5:41 p.m. — A man hung up when he was advised he was calling 911. When he was called back, the man said he saw a woman running across State Road 68 who appeared to be drunk.

    • 7:51 p.m. — A Rio Arriba County Road 75 caller said her friend was transported to the hospital because of a gas leak. The caller refused to allow fire department personnel to enter her home and only wanted law enforcement to tell the landlord to fix the leak.

    • 8:54 p.m. — A County Road 56A caller said he wanted his drunk boyfriend removed because he hits him. 

    • 9:39 p.m. — A Kentucky Fried Chicken cashier found a purse full of syringes and dropped them off at the hospital.

Man Wants to Party

Tuesday, Jan. 6

    • 3:29 p.m. — A State Road 110 caller said she was trying to get ahold of DirectTV and somehow she mistakenly dialed 911.

    • 6:06 p.m. — A State Road 514 caller said a man was trying to break down his door by knocking on it real hard. The man had done that before, but just wanted to party with the caller, he said. The knocker was detoxed.

    • 6:10 p.m. — A Paseo de Paulina caller said someone kept calling and asking him to bring the person to him that is going to pay. The caller didn’t know what to do. Officers were advised.

    • 6:34 p.m. — A woman wanted to file a report at the Española Police Station against someone for illegally accessing medical information, but would not provide her information or the suspect’s information.

Drunken Reading

Wednesday, Jan. 7

    • 2:28 a.m. — A caller said a silver Kia was parked next to the Lov’n Oven bakery and took off whenever Big Rock Security passed by.

    • 11:26 a.m. — A Rent-A-Center employee said a man was trying to use three fake money orders totalling $2,800 and was becoming nervous. Police took a report for fraud.

    •  3:10 p.m. — A caller said her ex-boyfriend pushed her against her car outside Lowe’s Super Save and attempted to steal it. She said she would make a report later.

    •  5:42 p.m. — An Española Public Library employee requested an intoxicated person be removed from the library. He was detoxed.

    • 6:21 p.m. — A McDonald’s employee said two men were in the bathroom for awhile and weren’t using it. Officers advised them not to be hanging around there anymore.

    • 10:55 p.m. — An East Kennedy Street caller said her boyfriend broke into her house by throwing a log through the window. The victim’s father said he would decide whether he wanted to press charges or not.

Auntie Slap

Thursday, Jan. 8

    • 12:21 a.m. — A Giant Gas Station employee said a man who appeared to have a gun in his truck was fighting with everyone and telling them to meet him at the Ohkay Express Mart so they could fight.

    • 8:58 a.m. — A Las Lomas Apartments caller said her aunt slapped her three times because she was upset she took her mother to Santa Fe. No report was wanted.

    • 10:45 a.m. — A woman calling from the Alcalde Chevron said she thought a man was stalking her but would not answer dispatchers’ questions.

    • 8:08 p.m. — An El Vado caller said she found a puppy outside Margarita’s Comedor and Lounge, and after searching for someone to take care of it for six hours, she gave it to a woman with connections to the humane society in Albuquerque. Subsequently, two people who claimed to own the dog were making harassing phone calls to her. The parties were advised not to speak to each other.

Cop Impersonator

Friday, Jan. 9

    • 12:34 p.m. — A Red Hawk Court caller said the hood popped open on her Dodge Caravan and shattered the windshield. She had just gotten it back from the body shop, which agreed to pay for the damage.

    • 3:45 p.m. — An Española Valley High School security officer said two females were in possession of narcotics, but one of them had thrown the drugs on the ground and he wasn’t sure which had done it.

    • 7:32 p.m. — A caller said a man in a white Ford Mercury was impersonating a police officer on Highway 84 near Chama. The Mercury tried to pull the caller over with its headlights flashing like a police vehicle but then kept going when he saw there were three men in the caller’s vehicle. The impostor couldn’t be found.

    • 7:51 p.m. — A caller said someone stole her son’s pit bull from outside the Family Dollar store in Hernandez.

Knife, Shovel Used in Family Feud

Saturday, Jan. 10

    • 12:38 a.m. — A County Road 40 caller said her son and husband were armed with a knife and a shovel and were fighting. The call was transferred to another agency.

    • 2:40 p.m. A Las Vegas caller said his sister and her boyfriend were fighting. The boyfriend had beaten her up before and was currently throwing her clothes out, the caller said. The couple didn’t know what was going on or why police were called when they arrived.

    • 3:10 p.m. — A caller said four young men outside Sacred Heart Catholic Church called him a Mexican and wanted to fight him. No criminal activity was located.

    • 4:13 p.m. — A Calle Quintana caller said she and her grandson were picking up trash near their house and someone on an ATV wearing a Halloween mask egged her grandson. Police couldn’t find the ATV driver.

    • 7:55 p.m. — A Truchas caller said her uncle sexually harassed her and tried to hit her with a piece of wood, but her boyfriend broke it up. Police found everyone involved was mentally unstable and no crime had been committed.

    • 8:30 p.m. — A Truchas caller said his cousin walked to his house and was assaulted by his niece’s boyfriend from the previous call. No report was wanted.

    • 9:18 p.m. — A Pine Street caller said three men swept her floor without her asking them to do so, and now they wanted to be paid. Police patrolled the area.

    • 10:46 p.m. — A Chama Trails Inn caller said a man was wanting her to give him a free room and hanging around her sauna room. The man and his dog were dropped off at his home.

Elusive

Homeless Man

Sunday, Jan. 11

    • 1:24 p.m. — A caller said he witnessed a Walgreens manager grab a homeless man by the jacket and throw him to the ground. The caller didn’t want to give his name or make a report.

    • 2:49 p.m. — Officers from all agencies were advised to be on the lookout for two females armed with handguns driving in  a white Pontiac. The pair had driven to a La Puebla residence and shot in the air. 

    • 3:43 p.m. — A Pizza Hut employee said a woman, who was with a child, passed out twice in the restaurant. The authorities determined that she was on heroin and accompanied by a man on Percocet and Valium. The state Children, Youth and Families Department was contacted. 

    • 11:49 p.m. — A caller said there was a homeless man camped out at Santa Clara Apartments. Police noted the same call comes in every night and the homeless man is never located.
