Police Blotter: Woman Suspects Something Extra in Coleslaw

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

Nov. 6

8:13 a.m. A man damaged the air conditioner outside Allsups.

8:34 a.m. A man was trying to take items from the Habitat for Humanity property.

8:58 a.m. A Hernandez caller said a known thief is in the area.

10:19 a.m. An Abiquiú caller reported a construction worker was trespassing on her property.

10:24 a.m. An Alcalde caller said the neighbor came over and talked to her through the Ring camera and said someone was trying to burn down her house.

12:05 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man near 420 Emporia who had his pants down and was lying in the middle of the road, would get up and lie back down.

12:19 p.m. Hernandez Elementary was evacuated.

1:13 p.m. Velarde Elementary was on lockdown.

1:39 p.m. A 420 Emporia caller said there was a naked man by the dumpster who’s tweaking and yelling.

1:45 p.m. A caller reported a truck was swerving all over the road on State Road 106 and Shady Lane and went over the median.

2 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man on the side of Little Caesar’s who was screaming. When they asked if he was OK, he would just scream.

2:16 p.m. A caller reported there was a bicycle and backpack full of suspected stolen items in the ditch between Upper San Pedro Road and Middle San Pedro Road.

4:54 p.m. A caller said a man in a car was driving fast and went off the road in El Rito and got ejected.

6:52 p.m. A man was panhandling in front of Center Market.

7:34 p.m. A Calle del Rio caller said four people broke into his house and are still there.

10:50 p.m. A caller reported a car hit a guardrail on U.S. Highway 285.

Nov. 7

1:42 a.m. A Santa Fe County Sheriff’s deputy heard shots fire on Rosebud Lane and South Riverside Drive.

4:38 a.m. A woman’s death was reported in Chimayó.

7 a.m. A West Winesap Drive caller said her 13-year-old son stole her purse and hit her.

8:17 a.m. A man at Dollar General in Alcalde told employees that he was going to defecate in the parking lot.

10:09 a.m. A woman went to EPD and said she has guardianship over a homeless man and he’s accumulated more than $15,000 in transactions and she thinks he’s being exploited.

10:21 a.m. A Fairview Elementary caller reported a mentally handicapped younger man is trying to get into their building.

10:24 a.m. A parent said her son was jumped by some girls at Española Valley High School.

11:01 a.m. A drunk man was at the bus stop by DNCU East.

1:35 p.m. A man was spray-painting the building near the Lucero Center gym.

1:56 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on an elderly man who was hitchhiking near the Ohkay Casino. The caller was concerned that he was standing too close to the road.

2:16 p.m. A Velarde Elementary caller said a man keeps phoning the school and won’t give his name or number, but asks if the children are in school.

3:29 p.m. A woman’s death was reported in Velarde.

3:49 p.m. A man went to EPD to file a report after a homeless man beat him on Tuesday.

5:21 p.m. A man said he was driving near Abiquiú when a car side-swiped him, causing him to go off the road. The vehicle kept going after hitting him.

5:50 p.m. A Walgreens caller reported a man is standing outside, wearing a mask that covers his face like a bandanna and he’s scaring people.

6:22 p.m. A caller said a woman in a car hit a fence and sign in Chimayó.

6:22 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man outside Walmart who was tripping out.

6:24 p.m. A Denton Street caller reported their son is have a psyche episode and talking to people who aren’t there.

6:37 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man flailing around on the ground at the bus stop near Walmart.

8:33 p.m. A China Kitchen caller said a man was refusing to pay his bill and was trying to leave.

9:43 p.m. A Hernandez caller reported her grandson threw a box of food at her.

 

Threatened With a Hatchet

Nov. 8

7:07 a.m. An Española Car wash caller said the vacuums were damaged and the lids to the trash containers at the RTD bus stops were used. He wants an officer to take them.

7:56 a.m. An Alcalde caller reported her boyfriend and his daughter kidnapped and beat her.

9:13 a.m. A caller said a truck is off the side of the forest road in Cordova and is shot up.

11:56 a.m. An Abiquiú caller reported a man hit and choked her.

12:23 p.m. A gas line was hit by someone who was digging on Thorton Lane and gas began spraying out.

1:15 p.m. A Tierra Amarilla caller said a woman threatened to harm them with a hatchet.

2:25 p.m. A teen at Moving Arts hurt her back trying to do a flip.

3:45 p.m. A caller reported a man is following her on foot near Fairview Lane and Calle Chico.

5 p.m. A caller found a rifle lying in the road on South Riverside Drive.

6:49 p.m. A caller reported a man on a ladder was messing with a statue near Guadalupe Credit Union. The man was hired by the bank to carve the statue.

Don’t Take Candy From Strangers

Nov. 9

6:54 a.m. A Champion Car wash caller wanted to file a report for thousands of dollars in damages.

8:12 a.m. A car jumped the curb near the Dollar General in Hernandez, hit the ice machine and left. The driver asked a caller not to alert police because she doesn’t have a license.

9:22 a.m. A woman went to RASO and said she solved the real chest treasure mystery in Petaca and a man is claiming he found the chest.

11:02 a.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller reported a sinkhole is beginning to develop on N.M. 68.

1:06 p.m. An overdose was reported at Española Hospital. A 14-month-old overdosed on fentanyl. The parents said they came back from the Las Vegas strip, where they were given a bag of candy, which they gave to the child this morning. The child became lethargic and they took them to the emergency room.

2:05 p.m. A Chimayó caller said he crashed in the arroyo.

2:40 p.m. An Alcalde caller reported a woman was having psychiatric issues.

5:15 p.m. A man said he was jumped outside Walmart by his ex and her boyfriend.

11:10 p.m. An alarm at the Española Car wash was activated.

11:24 p.m. A caller said two cows were walking on the road by La Cocina.

12:13 a.m. A man was hit by a vehicle near the Ohkay Casino.

7 a.m. A caller reported a person was slumped over and frozen behind a house on Maple Street in Chama.

9:27 a.m. An overdose was reported at the Española Middle School.

10:47 a.m. A Calle del Rio caller said someone went crazy and broke his windows.

12:38 p.m. A caller reported a man was sitting on something near Murphy’s Express and might be stealing copper wire. The responding officer said the man was a Windstream employee.

2 p.m. An Española Hospital caller said a man left about half an hour ago and he might have an IV in place.

2:40 p.m. A caller reported there were four people standing near the trailer court on Calle Don Eduardo and North Coronado Avenue who were possibly pointing a rifle at passing cars and yelling at students who were playing outside at Española Elementary.

3:26 p.m. A caller believed that she ate food from Kentucky Fried Chicken that was laced with marijuana. She said she’s never smoked marijuana, but when she took a bite of her coleslaw, it tasted the way marijuana smells.

7:04 p.m. A caller reported a neighbor shot a gun when her daughter was outside.

7:44 p.m. Three people were trying to start a couch on fire behind the Treasures of Enchantment Thrift Store.

9:20 p.m. A caller said vehicles crashed into each other near the Ohkay Casino.

9:44 p.m. An overdose was reported on Keith Street.

11:03 p.m. Someone brandished a gun at the Española Hospital.

1:45 p.m. A man in a room at Motel 6 was screaming, yelling and banging on walls.

7:12 a.m. A Tierra Amarilla caller reported two people ran into traffic, jumped over a guardrail, then got into a vehicle that almost hit them.

8:07 a.m. A caller said a vehicle wrecked near DNCU West and a tire fell off.

11:52 a.m. A person went to RASO to say they sent money to a girl who was threatening to blackmail them.

2:26 p.m. A Hernandez caller reported a vehicle took down a gate and has been parked there for a while.

2:33 p.m. A chicken coop fire was reported in Chamita.

4:07 p.m. A caller said the family of a person in a car crash last night is near the road by the Ohkay Casino and they’re going to cause an accident.

6:15 p.m. A caller reported her ex-husband is in a truck and is circling her and her cousin in the Walmart parking lot.

6:48 p.m. An officer was involved in a pursuit near the Ohkay Express Mart.

8:11 p.m. A San Pedro Sonic caller reported a man is drunk, yelling at carhops and lying on tables.

 

Scam Call

Nov. 12

8:05 a.m. A La Mesilla caller said she’s been receiving stalker-type messages from a person she’s known for 40 years.

8:27 a.m. A student at Mesa Vista High School was in possession of THC.

8:48 a.m. A caller received a call from an Abiquiú number and the person claimed they had her co-worker’s daughter, who had been in a crash. They told her they didn’t call 911 because guns and drugs were in the vehicle. The mother of the girl called her daughter’s school and verified that she was there.

9:45 a.m. A Speedway caller reported a woman was doing fentanyl in the bathroom.

9:48 a.m. A Taco Bell caller said there was mail thrown outside of the business.

2:13 p.m. A caller reported an infant was crying and locked inside a car at Fairview Elementary.

2:14 p.m. An Abiquiú caller said a man in a vehicle went onto their property and when they confronted him, he tried to run over them.

3:03 p.m. An ambulance was requested at Española Valley High School after two boys were jumped in the bathroom.

3:55 p.m. A caller said two people were doing drugs at the trailer park on North Monterey Lane and North Riverside Drive.

4:19 p.m. A caller reported a man was on the ground behind Smoker’s Choice and was bleeding from the head.

4:40 p.m. A fight between students and parents was reported at Española Valley High School.

5:51 p.m. A Ken’z Cuisine caller said a woman went in and had dinner and one cocktail and she began acting weird and told them her husband was beating her. They requested a welfare check on her.

6:11 p.m. A Chimayó caller reported his wife came home drunk and started yelling and got physical. He wants a deputy to speak with her.
