State Police initiated a search and rescue effort Wednesday (10/9) morning for a 70-year-old hunter from Texas who didn’t return from a hunting trip.
William Wetmore, of Cleburne, Texas, was hunting elk with a group at Hopewell Lake when they reported early Wednesday that they lost contact with him, State Police Lt. Daniel Lovato said.
Hopewell Lake is located off a remote stretch of Highway 64 between Tierra Amarilla and Tres Piedras.
Wetmore was reported missing in the area of Forest Road 1893, Trail 41.
Anyone with information about Wetmore’s whereabouts is urged to call State Police at 753-2277.

A Hernandez man was arrested Sept. 30 for kicking a woman with his steel-toed boots, according to State Police.
Philip Aragon, 40, of Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo, was found on Rio Arriba County Road 1 shortly after 11 p.m., sitting next to the victim, Nancy Lovato, who was lying face down on the ground, court documents state.
Lovato told police Aragon hit her and threw her on the ground before kicking her repeatedly on her head and body and threatening to kill her.
Aragon was charged with aggravated battery with intent to inflict great bodily harm and aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony. He was being held at Rio Arriba County Jail on $20,000 bond, Jail staff said.
