Emma Kitchens, Pojoaque Valley Bowling
Kitchens repeated with another great performance at the state tournament as the Pojoaque Elks finished third in the state. Though she was behind teammate Jordan Lujan in high game and high series for the tournament, she took home awards for high series and high game for the season, and made the all-state team as she plans to continue her bowling career.
Hailey Renteria, Española Valley Girls Basketball
The Lady Sundevils are back on track, scoring a big win over district rival Los Alamos on the road. Renteria led the way with big shots in big moments, scoring a team-high 18 points as the team pulled away late.
Jeremaya Royal, McCurdy Boys Basketball
McCurdy’s junior center stepped up for a big game in what turned into a blowout win against a strong Mora team. Roybal commanded the post, with the majority of his team-high 17 points on offensive rebounds, and made big blocks to stop Mora in the paint.
Jacob Samaniego, Española Valley Bowling
Samaniego had a huge week to cap off his high school bowling career at the state tournament. In the individual series, he finished with a 628, over 200 in all three games, to win first place for the tournament; and in the team series he anchored Española as they nearly won the state tournament. And not only that, he played a big role in a pair of wins for McCurdy’s basketball team.
Shanae Silva, Mesa Vista Girls Basketball
Silva was slow to start the game, but picked up quickly. A 4-point play just before halftime was only the start, as she scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to carry Mesa Vista to a come-from-behind victory over their top district rival, keeping the team on top of the district with her clutch play.
