The Española Sundevils had a great win to close out their season, scoring 52 points and allowing just seven to Pojoaque. Though they will not be playing in the postseason this year, three of their athletes had strong enough weeks for Athlete of the Week nominations.

Nate Chacon, Española Football

Chacon finished a breakout senior season with another efficient game through the air, completing 73 percent of his passes while leading the Sundevils to their sixth win. He went 11-for-15 on passes for 166 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The quarterback finished the year with just under 2,000 yards, ranking eighth in the state and tops among all 4A players, with 22 touchdowns.

Victor Parra, Española Football

The spring’s district 400M champion brought his bursts of speed to the football field in the fall, and climbed up the depth chart to become a top option in the passing game. Parra added another pair of touchdowns against Pojoaque to finish with five scores in three district games as a sophomore, showing off an ability to get past defenders and turn every touch into points.

Jack Purdy, Española Football

After starting the year as a receiver, the junior eventually moved over to running back to form a great duo with teammate Alex Chavez, with the two combining for over 250 yards and four touchdowns in the final game of the year. Purdy had 158 of those, averaging nearly 10 yards per attempt, and three scores, giving him 10 total touchdowns for the year.
