Offensive Line, Española Valley Football
How to credit just one? The combination of Leandro Salazar, Jesus Gonzales, Bryan Almedia, E.J. Martinez and Matthew Martinez has been the difference maker over the past month for the Sundevils on their win streak. Against Moriarty, they bashed the defensive line, and opened up consistent holes for the running backs, who combined for 371 yards and five touchdowns.
Charnelle Gonzales, Peñasco Cross Country
Gonzales was a top performer at the Albuquerque Academy Extravaganza race against the state’s best. The Peñasco senior ran the course in 21 minutes, 27 seconds, to come away with a sixth-place finish.
Mercedes Gonzales, Española Valley Volleyball
The Sundevils pushed Pojoaque to five sets last week behind a career night from their senior middle. Gonzales landed 27 kills, forging a great connection with both of the team’s setters and nearly propelling Española to an upset victory.
Joslyn Nuñez, Pojoaque Valley Volleyball
The Elkettes have won five matches in a row, and their setter is leading the way in a return from injury. Against Española, she recorded 33 assists in five sets, and added four aces in the victory.
Matthew Romero, Pojoaque Valley Football
The Elks’ defense continues to keep them in games, as it did against Taos until into the second half. After missing a game, the sophomore linebacker was right back in action with a team-high 13 tackles against Taos. He also played a role on the offense with 15 rushing yards.
