Local teams competed in the state tournament for esports, competitive video games, after successful seasons.

The Dulce Hawks team had a successful run in Mario Kart, a competitive racing game. They were the No. 8 seed in the state tournament after going 4-5 in matches in the regular season. They defeated No. 9 Magdalena in the first round, and in the quarterfinals lost 2-0 to top seed Evangel Christian Academy.

The Escalante “Squire Squad” was the No. 12 seed in the same tournament, and lost in the first round to No. 5 Ramah.

Española Valley’s team in Super Smash Bros., an animated combat game, was the No. 11 seed, and lost 3-1 to No. 6 Highland in the first round.

The semifinals and finals in all games are played live on Thursday through Saturday in Albuquerque at the Berna Facio Professional Development Center.

Two days earlier, to start the district schedule against Peñasco (0-11, 0-2), the Bobcats won a doubleheader at home 22-0 and 17-1. Over a seven-day span, the Bobcats scored 93 runs in six games.
