ROYAL C. ELWESS SR.,
91, a resident of Chama, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Stella Elwess. Royal was a proud and decorated Veteran who served his country during WWII. He was issued the Asian-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, (2 Bronze Stars), Philippines Liberation Ribbon (2 Bronze Stars) and also the Good Conduct Medal. He was well known as a trucker for the majority of his life. His sons, grandsons and nephews and all called him a trucking legend. Mr. Elwess is survived by his children, Lou Gonzalez and husband Jose, Royal Elwess Jr. and wife Liz, Linda Greenwood and husband Chip all of Chama, Henry Elwess and wife Josephine of Albuquerque and Lisa Elwess and companion Randy Salazar of Alcalde; sister, Ida Elwess of San Antonio, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends, we loved him very much and will be missed by all of us. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Church of Chama.
