After reading the story about the upcoming mayoral run (Rio Grande SUN, July 16, 2009, Head Shop Manager . . . page A18) I find myself once again wondering how many Española mayors and city councilors will be elected before areas which have been annexed into the city get the utilities they need.
Citizens pay a higher tax rate for being part of the city and this tax is to help fund the cost of services provided for citizens. According to the article there are resources available, yet the city council does not release or give the go-ahead to the city manager. Why not?
Another concern is why would the mayor and city councilors consider pushing a bond election for a new library? The bond election should actually be for funding utility projects to ensure non-utility areas are given services they need. Is this what happens when the mayor and city councilors split and each side wants different projects for the city?
Just who do the mayor and city councilors work for? Did they forget the citizens? What I find interesting is how the current administration blames previous administrations for the lack of follow through on the utility issue, yet they are no different than their predecessors.
