Savage Beating Shocks Detective

An Española man is being held on five felony charges in what an Española Police detective is calling one of the most brutal domestic violence cases he has ever investigated.

Eloy Cisneros, 24, is accused of beating his girlfriend and holding her against her will for several hours Sunday at his Española home. He allegedly released her, and then raped and beat her in a second attack at her Rio Chama home later the same day, Sgt. Christian Lopez said.

“Some people get this beat up with a bat,” Lopez said. “In my career never have I seen somebody get hit with a fist and a foot and a pair of tennis shoes and end up the way this girl did. She’s fortunate she’s alive.”            Cisneros allegedly beat the 29-year-old woman Sunday between about 2:30 and 5:30 a.m., after the two got into an argument at his house, Lopez said. The couple had been drinking when issues of jealousy came up, Lopez said.

A friend of the victim was also held against her will until they were both let go early Sunday morning, Lopez said. Cisneros visited the victim’s house in Rio Chama between 9 and 9:30 p.m. Sunday and claimed he wanted to apologize, but instead beat her again and raped her, Lopez said.

Cisneros allegedly kept the victim and her friend from calling police during the earlier attack, Lopez said. The victim apparently didn’t call police after returning to her house because she believed Cisneros was through attacking her, Lopez said.

911 dispatch logs state the victim’s neighbor called police after Cisneros left her home. The caller reported that the victim was bleeding from her face and possibly had broken ribs. The caller said he believed the suspect went by the gang name, “Payaso.”

Lopez said the victim was treated at Española Hospital for extensive injuries. She was given a sexual assault examination at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, and released to a safe house outside the area, where she is currently staying with her children from a previous relationship. She continues to be monitored for medical complications from her injuries, Lopez said.

The victim was bruised from head to toe and had broken bones, but Lopez declined to go into detail about the fractures.

“The bruises start at the top of her head and end at her feet,” Lopez said. “If I was to try to count them, I’d say over 100 bruises.”

Cisneros turned himself in at the State Police office in Española Sunday night, where Lopez said he then arrested him. Cisneros gave police a statement but did not admit to committing the crimes. His statement has not been released, and a probable cause statement for his arrest had not been filed in Santa Fe County Magistrate Court.

Cisneros has been charged in Santa Fe County for the crimes that allegedly took place at his Calle Lucia home, which is in Santa Fe County. The charges are two counts of aggravated battery on a household member, kidnapping, interference with communications for preventing the victim from using a cell phone and false imprisonment for detaining the victim’s friend, whose name hasn’t been released.

Cisneros is being held on no bond in the Santa Fe County Jail pending arraignment, according to the jail’s web site.

Cisneros will also be charged in Rio Arriba County for the crimes that allegedly took place at the victim’s Rio Chama home, Lopez said. These latter charges would include rape, Lopez said.

Cisneros had charges of false imprisonment and battery against a household member dismissed in 2004, a database shows.
