A week after the Class 2A Mesa Vista boys shocked the New Mexico basketball world with a win over 5A Hobbs, the Trojans, missing star post Jordan Gallegos, fell from the ranks of the undefeated with a loss to 1A behemoth Logan.

Maddie Vigil scored all 11 of the visiting Lady Hawks’ (3-1) fourth-quarter points, but it wasn’t quite enough to fuel a comeback against the Lady Panthers, Vigil finished with 17 points and eight rebounds and Emma Martinez-Pierce grabbed 15 rebounds and had five steals for Dulce.

Wrestling
The Española Valley girls team turned in a strong showing in the Taos Tangle in the Timbers, taking second place with 69 points, trailing only Los Alamos with 82, out of 11 teams.
Individual Sundevils took first place in four weight classes: Jazlyn Maestas at 105 pounds, Sheila Balderrama at 125, Anelicia Maestas at 170 and Kianna Moreland at 235. Esmeralda Trivinio added a third place at 120.
For the boys with just three wrestlers, the Sundevils finished 10th among 12 teams with 44.5 points.
Izaac Rivera grabbed second place at 215 and Juan Maestas was fourth at 165.
And in the Lady Jaguar Invitational on Dec. 6, the Española Valley girls totaled 70 points for a ninth-place finish among 18 teams. Jazlyn Maestas reached the semifinals at 105 and Moreland was third at 235. Trivinio was fourth at 120, Miquela Sandoval was fifth at 100 and Balderrama was sixth at 125.
On the boys side of the ledger at Capital, Rivera finished fourth, Purdy fifth and Juan Maestas sixth.
