Waitin’ for a Train

(SUNfoto by Andrew Kasper) Steve Forney, a train enthusiast from Colorado, points to a rivet on an old Lobato trestle girder lying in the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad yard in Chama. Rivets were used in the original 1881 construction of the trestle but were sacrificed for nuts and bolts that look like rivets in the current reconstruction — just one of several ways antiquated methods and materials have had to be substituted for modern ones while still attempting to maintain historical integrity.
