Española Police allegedly found Tuesday a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition in the car of an Española Valley High School student.
Zachary Campbell, 18, was observed by campus security on a surveillance monitor moving what appeared to be a rifle from the trunk of his Chevy Monte Carlo around 3:30 p.m. and putting it in the backseat of the car, according to a police report. Security stopped Campbell as he was leaving the parking lot.
“In excited utterance, Zachary immediately advised me he knew he (expletive) up by bringing the shotgun to school,” Española Police Cpl. Miguel Maez wrote in his report.
Ammunition for the .12-gauge shotgun was also found in the car, Deputy Chief Larry Ham said.
Campbell was charged with carrying a deadly weapon on school grounds and booked at Española Jail.
