Transparent Dialogue

It is essential to have transparent dialogue about addressing homelessness in our city and communities. Blocking public input on this matter is unfair to everyone in the city and surrounding communities, especially those you are considering moving a homeless camp into their backyards.

When will the community be included in these major decisions that impact us all?

Stop hiding and, “Get it together Espanola City Officials and Representatives!”

Special Session

Less than two months following the conclusion of the 2024 Legislative Session, there is already talk of a Special Session being called by the Governor to address “public safety.”

It is estimated that in order for the Legislature to convene in a Special Session, hard-working New Mexicans must foot a $50,000 per day price tag. Not only is this poor stewardship of taxpayer dollars, but it begs the question: “What did the legislature actually accomplish during this year’s session?”

As a legislator who introduced a comprehensive crime package aimed at supporting law enforcement and holding career criminals accountable, I can tell you what we didn’t do. We didn’t take any meaningful action to address and improve public safety.

Even with some expressed support from the Governor, proposed legislation to address the crime crisis we experience in New Mexico was either killed or ignored by Democratic leadership.

The lack of urgency and action on public safety should alarm all New Mexicans. Instead of going after criminals, Democrats in the Legislature wasted thirty days targeting law-abiding citizens and stripping away their Second Amendment rights.

Meanwhile, initiatives to target organized criminal activity, halt the revolving door for criminals, and recruit and retain law enforcement officers were stopped dead in their tracks. To add insult to injury, the Governor has stated that if we are called into a Special Session, addressing “panhandling” of all things is one of her top priorities. Talk about a waste of time and taxpayer resources.

If this Special Session is called, Senate Republicans will again advocate for meaningful changes to make our communities safer. However, I’m incredibly skeptical that the other side of the aisle will actually step up to the plate. We cannot delay any longer and I urge my fellow legislators to put politics aside and start prioritizing the safety and security of those we have pledged to serve.

Thanks grandma

Congratulations to my daughter Laureleiy Allison on her graduation from MBU and her commissioning into the USN.

She is so thankful to her grandmother Edith Allison (a long time resident and teacher in Española Valley) for always being supportive and loving to her. Laureleiy worked very hard on her education earning a top scholarship to attend Mary Baldwin. Grandma Omi and I are so proud of you baby girl! Keep breaking those glass ceilings! I’m proud to offer you a salute as I watch you continue the Allison traditions. You are very special and a wonderful hard working deserving girl. Never let anyone make you feel otherwise.
